Would it be possible to mark recent notifications as unread? For example, if I click notifications while I am on my phone but decide to deal with that later when I will be on my PC and there would be a ''mark recent as unread'' so I know exactly what notifications to focus on. Would that be possible?
Just woke up, so my English is all over the place.
I normally avoid clicking on notifications when browsing HF on my phone for that reason. Once I'm off my PC, I try to remove myself from the internet in general or else I'll be distracted and find myself in an endless loop of rotating social media platforms and watching clips.
So I don't think it's too big of a deal since you can always go back to view them. Just don't forget to do so. Either way, I think it would be a nice little modification but it's not "needed".

Yeah... I miss notifications a lot, but that's on me for checking the notifs at times when I know I don't have the time to reply and forgetting to come back later. I can't find any cookies that track notifications, so if read/unread status is hooked into the database then having per-notif read/unread functionality could spike read/writes on the DB a lot. I'm assuming that there's probably a general setting for "last notif read time" that covers all (past) notifications being read, and swapping to per-notif status could be problematic on a large site.
I also miss notifications a good bit because of this. I'll check HF throughout the day, then have something that I need to deal with on my desktop but don't have the resources to do it outside.
I like this suggestion. Unmark notis would be real nice.
You can still view the last 48 hours notifications even if read.
Even as someone like me who mainly browses HF on PC (almost always), I would still love to have this as a feature.
There's plenty of times where I could be busy with something but notice I have a few unread notifications and want to go check them just in case it has to do with business, etc.. However I won't want to click it until I'm ready to actually read the random quotes, or other notifications that aren't necessarily vital to get back to at that moment. And I know once I click it that little red indicator will disappear, often leaving me with a tab open with my notifications menu dropped down because I went to check them, wound up getting busy with work for example, and just end up opening a new tab for HF so I don't lose the ones past the previous 20 that it displays.
+1 for this for sure
