DWC (Deal with caution) TAG

So many sites do something like this, when a deal dispute is opened they get a badge on their account that says deal with caution. When it's resolved it's removed, if it's left open because they can't come to a resolution it remains for a set amount of time.

A guy scammed me, then after I opened a report he's gotten 3 other people and I'm sure a DWC banner/flag on their account might have saved the others.

I feel like this is a good idea.
The fucking LEGEND.
Or you can do: an icon like this when a dispute is opened: https://img.sythe.org/ranks/official/do_not_trade.png

If you click on it, it'll take you to the open dispute.

Once it's been resolved and or if it's a pattern we could use: https://img.sythe.org/ranks/official/tra...aution.png

Click it and it takes to contract disputes overview screen giving people the option to choose if they want to but being aware, hey... Be careful they have a lot of disputes.

The Trust Scan feature already shows open disputes on an account. I do think the deal with caution could be a useful feature.

Yeah but people have to use it, it's a great tool but many don't use it. Most just look at their profile quickly, however if something like what I suggested displays under their name like a banner could be a small change with a big enough impact to stop them or at least slow them down, because scammers act on speed and if you reviewer their account at a glance and see a flag you'll look deeper.

I think it's a good idea, as not everyone takes the time to research the person they're going to do business with, whether because they're lazy, or just don't know any better because they haven't take the time to read the welcome message.. but either way, anything that might aid in helping users to be more aware that a particular user might be a possible scammer, or just not the best person to conduct business with, I think is a good idea.

And you have to consider, when you're looking at someones username and stats shown directly on a thread.. you won't know whether they have any deal disputes, as it only shows their credibility rating. The person might have multiple deal disputes open, and no poor ratings as the deals are still open... so the person would only see green/positive ratings on their stats from the thread, and assume the user to be OK. Not everyone takes the time to click on the profile, and further investigate.

I'm pretty sure the "russian" wanker offers a free middleman service here.

I totally want this as a feature.

Made a similar suggestion thread in 2020: "Deal With Caution" Profile Alert

Most counter-arguments were that it's already a feature with "open disputes" viewed on the user and market profile, but it at least should be implemented as a warning in the contract process. It should be made visible in every step of the deal process.
@OP, maybe take a look at the last post on this thread:

We already have very cheap MMs, contracts, trust scans AND B-rating. If people still getting scammed after all that then they are a lost cause - I know there are edge cases where trusted people just go rogue or some shit but all the protection and flashy warnings in the world wouldn't stop that.

Why not just stop him from dealing till his dispute is settled?

I have to say that this idea sounds like a good one to me. The cred and rep systems work well, but they're not very obvious. If being mid-dispute gets a nice big banner on the side of your account in marketplace threads, then it might also deter older accounts from attempting to selectively scam new members.

I like this idea, not many people will do significant due diligence but they may think twice if they see a DWC badge.

Omni said previously he didn't want to tag people with a scarlet letter. Which I think a potential flag of deal with caution, due to an open dispute or even a "open dispute flag" isn't a scarlet letter and you can assign it to both contract parties. Would benefit not hurt. I have no issues with a Deal with caution on me while we await this resolution. A false dispute is also reason for caution.

Deal with Caution was orignally an HF thing because I disallowed you to call someone a scammer in a Reputation. So that evolved into Deal with Caution. But since we now have a Popularity system separate from the Credibility system, there is no need for DWC.

The balance between constantly warning people they might get scammed and making sure that Marketplace is functional for sellers is important to me. I can easily just start going ape shit on any account a Deal Dispute is opened. But how fast would that get abused by competitors or trolls? I think incredibly fast.

Then that's on them.

If anything, I'd say that on the New Contract page, that would be the most appropriate place for some additional information on the person you're about to deal with.

Example is this image...

What might work is something next to the username (.Magic) which could say in red letters "has at least one open dispute in the past 7 days" and the words Open Dispute might link to their Disputes page.

Because it would be really easy for an active Vendor to have sales stopped by a fake Dispute. If you read the Deal Dispute forum, it happens rather often that idiots don't understand how Contracts work and they create fake Disputes. So that's a huge no.

btw, that post I made about scarlet letter is from 7 years ago. I do try to evolve the site which sometimes means making adjustments I previously didn't want to do. Personally I like my solution.
