Don't panic. We were offline for 8 hours last night, I was sleeping. After some investigating this is unrelated to an attack or exploit. It's related to an action taken by the datacenter on the server which glitched Nginx. It's a strange situation, has happened a couple times before where they console into server and it messes up the Nginx server with the work they do. It's an IP thing. I don't want to go into details at this time but it would be corrected when we're on new server. It's also a rare occurrence.

Glad to see the server back online again! It was missed during the downtime
I was online at the moment it went offline, I assumed it to be a server error and not an attack.. and luckily it was just that. Considering the time it occurred, it did come across my mind that you might of been sleep. Wasn't really sure what the protocol was for what happens if the site went offline and you weren't aware.. but happy to see it wasn't anything malicious, and that you got things back up and running!
Looking forward to the new server, excited to see what new things it brings to HF.
Why do staff in the data center have permission to console into the server? Is it part of a management or maintenance agreement?

Most SLA's include providing them access for "maintenance" or "abuse" reasons. When your datacenter has the actual hardware access there isn't much you can do to prevent them from logging into your system. Matter of fact, there is no way to keep them out if they have actual physical access.
I suspected it was a DC related issue.
