So, awhile back I made a post about moving out with my girlfriend. Well, we moved in with my grandmother and the plan was that we would have our own apartment in the basement and establish ourselves financially and as a couple living together.
Well, the basement flooded which was completely unexpected as one of the sewage pumps blew. We had two. We bought another pump and a few days later it flooded again as both pumps blew up. The plan went to complete shit after that. Ever since we have been sleeping in the car and DoorDashing for money. We have put in countless applications and have not received any calls back in regards to real work. We are on a waiting list for income based housing and relatively close to the top; although it will still be awhile before we reach the top. I just need information or some help if there are any homeless shelters in PA that can take us, or any ways we can make money just being out. I have researched countless hours and I get lead down rabbit holes and don’t get acceptable answers
I wish I was in the area because I'd probably just house you guys for a bit until you got on your feet (pending we meet up first and talk about ground rules). I hope you figure things out because I am sure that's a tough situation to be in.
Good luck man and I wish I could help out more.

Is English your first language? There are sites where you get paid to converse in English with people learning the language - you don't have to be a teacher (or you didn't used to have to be anyway, it might have changed), and I know that some people have done it from their car/van/boat etc. So it'll be chatting to a Chinese businessman for an hour about the weather or something. I'm sure it doesn't pay that great, but it's more than nothing.
'Cambly' is one that does it, I know.
Also, go along to local libraries - they're warm and free, and they often have useful local information - they might even let you post a notice saying you're looking for any kind of work. It is a bitch trying to find a job or access services when you don't have a permanent address. Good luck.

Have you tried walking into shops and straightaway asked the owner or manager that if they are hiring? Tell them you are in need of work and that you are willing to put in the time.
I'm not from the area. But I have seen jobs in various companies that do walk in interviews.
May not be pretty or the work you'd want. But desperate time call for desperate measures.

That is pretty much all we do. A restaurant said there hiring manager wasn’t on shift one time. So we waited, and we waited and waited. While we waited we kept asking and remained persistent about inquirys to their hiring manager being there and if it was possible that they could read over our applications. That seems to be the most common excuse a lot of places use to be honest.
I'm very sorry you're going through this, it will get easier with time and I'm happy you two are sticking together through hard times.

Well. all I got to say is I've been through this and actually only recently been getting or well starting to get back on my feet. I will say the most important thing is to stay away from drugs, stay very close with your girlfriend. I would suggest getting any government supplemental pay that you can like food stamps. Always know that the library is a good place to relax at if you don't have any homes to go to. I recommend also going to whole foods lots of them have charging ports, accept food stamps and a place to charge your electronics. I recommend always packing light and taking a extra pair of clothes with you that you keep washed, dress with things that can easily be washed too like gym shorts etc, keep your hygiene up, while hard its not impossible to sneak into gyms or find a church that does the shower days for homeless. Best of luck to you.

I would post on location specific reddit or a local facebook group

I would ask the local churches, mosque's other holy or religious buildings and ask the people inside for any homeless shelters.
I would hit up your state's employment office. In my state it's called works. In my state you go online make an account and upload your resume and then apply to jobs that are verified and confirmed by the state. In my state we have free classes which would help you enhance your skills.
you can look at those to see if you qualify. In my state some shops need welders and are willing to pay for training. The state will train you and then once you pass you then can start work immediately at that one company that paid for the training. Then you start out with low pay and they will keep increasing your pay $6 dollars every 6 months. It's only for jobs that there's a shortage.
I know my local utility company is hiring people that will train them to be a lines man. Starting pay is like $35 an hour.
Sad situation but why not just google local homeless shelter instead of coming on here?
