I am not sure the feasibility of this, but I feel like the logic already exists and would just need some teaks to tie into MyBB.
The idea is to re-purpose the lottery system to work along side the Members Contest forum. The main reason I think this will be a good addition is that it would allow for automated contests and also make it simpler for members to enter.
When a thread is created, there is a check box asking if the contest is to receive bytes as the reward. Any contests that reward bytes would be required to use that feature. The creator then is able to choose requirements listed below to get a ticket, along with when the contest closes and the winning amount. - Quick Love the OP
- Positive Popularity
- Cost of each additional ticket
- Decode this hash - This is another popular contest it seems where the first to enter the code wins. The host would need to supply both the hash and the winning code. This could also be expanded in the future to not be a hash decrypt but a "Enter the secrete word" and the host provide clues to what it is.
In this option, the creator pays to create the thread for the cost of the reward (or tiered 25%, 50%, 75% depending on group). When someone wishes to enter, they click a button on the OP (similar to Start Contract) or their first post on the thread serves as their entry (when they post, the OP gets Popularity added automatically and other requirements). Additional replies to the thread must deduct the bytes for additional tickets if needed (these bytes would go directly to the user)
At the time chosen when the thread was created is reached, Stanley will announce on the thread the winner and transfer the bytes to the winner.
Benefits:- Aligns with most Bytes contests
- Makes entries easier but keeps content flowing on to HF by still requiring a post
- Ability to distinguish contest QL vs real QL
- Ability for the Popularity to be set to a System granted only reason of "Thanks for the contest in TID: XXX"
- This will help new members not be fooled by 50 "A High Quality Member" reasons
Cons:- Not all contests are limited to HF actions. Some require post on other thread, or some off-site action
- Could run into less active contests if each post requires a byte fee to serve as an additional ticket (could offset by allowing 0 fee)
- Possible issues of the host not having the bytes required for the contest on the drawing date.
This option goes along with Option 1 but requires Byte Contests to be created on the Lottery page instead. This would make it easier and add some structure to the contests so they are all posted with the same format and include a button in the OP to enter the contest.
Benefits:- Same as Option 1
- Likely would be easier for hosts to start the contest
- Possibility to list the contests in the lottery system (I know it is not technically a lottery in the normal sense, but the winner is chosen using a lottery/random selection system)
- Allows for HF to display all entries for a contest, winning amounts, etc. for participants. The host could also then see the amount of bytes they got from the contests vs rewarded.
Cons:- Not all groups have access to the lottery page
- May be more work on the backend to implement the creation on the Lottery page but have entries happening on the Thread
- Will take time to get users to utilize the lottery page to create the thread
- Users may loose ability to customize the OP (adding group images, color, etc) depending on how it is implemented
Apologies for the long post, but it was something I just thought may bring new purpose for the lottery system since it is not as active without the eggs. I also just really dislike the contests that require QL and Pop being given as well as a post and think it is a lot of steps (especially since you cannot give popularity from a post directly)

I like the idea, I just don't know the capabilities of mybb so I don't want to give the wrong information haha. However from a high level this looks good! 🙂
Also that ETH award is beauuuuuuuuuutiful!
I am currently at 88% for quick loves please help a brother out QL4QL
Nice idea ngl , but need a lot of work so i doubt it will take place
Limited offer
Signature space ... 1k bytes per week
Your suggestion seems rather complex. I have a plan to make a plugin that when a Contest thread is created the OP can set parameters and an end time. Basically it will help automate the drawing of the winner but it doesn't use the Lottery system which I don't think it's all that important right now.

A plugin would also work and likely be simpler, I just thought of it when I was looking at the Lottery and it only had 4 running. K.I.S.S. is something my brain struggles to follow. Also I like how there are decode the hash contest and it would be amazing if the plugin was able to also function for that purpose (instead of end date, it picks the winner when the first person to mention a word/phase/decrypted-text in their post)
Since it seems something like my original suggestion is already on the plan board I am going to go ahead and close this thread.

I just think preference from members to do contests is through a thread. Maybe that's not ideal. I will ponder your suggestion more to see if it's plausible or if I can tweak it so that it's easier to implement. What you've suggested is a bit convoluted to code.
