(white hat security) how to find geolocation of your youtube videos on youtube |
|
YouTube strips most of the metadata from a video, but you should still scrub your metadata before you upload. There's apps for it, or if you're uploading from computer then you can do it manually.
Depending on the types of videos you post make sure to blur any landmarks. Don't link your YouTube to other social media accounts.
Don't fall for a scam, use a middleman!

For the most part YouTube removes everything. On iPhone there's a couple apps. I don't use iPhone so you'd have to look up exif on the app store.

I heard that youtube scrubs meta data. I mean if someone is dedicated enough they can find me. But I am just protecting myself from garden variety bored trolls/haters etc.👍 (Jul 6, 2025 02:24 PM)johndoeman805 Wrote: good idea👍 question: does it really make a difference if I utilize this or not. I heard that youtube scrubs meta data. YouTube would have to save metadata in order to display it. It's been a long time, but I think that there was a setting for location when uploading videos. You can use this tool on your videos. https://github.com/mattwright324/youtube-geofind

Sure if some maniac really wanted to find my location they could 🤣 But just your garden variety trolls probably not? -thx Just trying to be prudent/sensible but not go overboard etc👍
