Okay guys, I am willing to accept that there are a number, at least 5-10 people who claim they will leave HF if global convo is deleted. Here is an alternate idea that solves point #2 from my original suggestion, to ensure we have post activity.
What if you could read global convo anytime, but to talk in chat you had to have X number of posts per week, or day? It could be a low number, who knows.
As a concept, do you agree or disagree that this could be a min-effort way to boost activity on the forum? This would be a great counter to my suggestion, but don't think anyone has mentioned it. It gets rid of problem #2 that statistically, people in convo who are chatting aren't on forums as much as they may be if they didn't have global chat.
Alt idea 2:
An un/official Discord and TG for HF community chats ran by Omni or appointed staff? Before I got demoted in Fallen i had started a public TG group and it grew fast for users who never would've found us without the chat. It might be a way to expand the HF brand. To keep users on site, we could easily set up a bot that requires HF API auth with X number of weekly/monthly posts or something after 3-7 days, so users can find the groups and chat, but then they have to join HF to stay in the chat.
I can tell you right now that removing Global Chat will not cause myself personally to post more often.
If anything, me waiting around for replies encourages me to stay on the site.

Sounds like a pain in the ass to implement.
I could see making it an upgrade only feature, but that would take some of the fun away.
