Depends on the state, and sometimes the firearm. Laws vary unfortunately. In my state all firearms can be transported loaded in your vehicle as your vehicle is an extension of your home. An unloaded firearm is useless paperweight IMO.

The main thing in this case was the safety was t on, or is was so old it didn’t have one. Who knows.
