Tampa, Florida-------But the jury recently acquitted the 71 year old retired decorated law enforcement officer. He claimed self defense as an old man up against a six foot- 43 year old that was throwing popcorn.
After the retired cop- Curtis Reeves told 43 year old, Chad Oulson to turn off his cell phone during the previews, Oulson said "Fuck off, I'm texting my daughter's babysitter," Reeves then reported him to the manager, and then came back and said "Oh you turned off your cell phone I didn't have to report you to the manager." Chad Oulson then said "Get the fuck out of my face" and grabbed the old man's popcorn, and threw it at him- whereupon, the 71 year old shot him in the chest and the bullet also took the 43 year old's wife's finger off.
The jury felt the prosecution didn't prove that it was murder beyond reasonable doubt, despite the fact that Chad Oulson never got out of his seat and just threw the popcorn from his own seat. He did grab the old man's own popcorn out of his hand though and threw the old man's OWN popcorn at him.

Knew this was Murica before I read it and just the fact alone that anyone can bring a gun into a movie theatre is fucking insane.
Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
That's a jury that values their guns over their people by the sounds of it. I love guns, think they're great inventions and wonderful tools for defence, but this is clearly a miscarriage of justice.

Imagine being so trigger happy that someone throwing something like popcorn at you makes you want to fill them with lead, and then you realise you've hit the wife too because you didn't think of the collateral damage or the firing angle... What a world lol.

I concealed carry to the theatre all the time, what's your problem?
There is nothing wrong with defending yourselves. Crime is off the chart.

When guns are permitted to go with you everywhere, this type of situation is bound to happen. Guns should not be normalized for anyone but hunters.
I like the gun laws in Canada.

You are free to like the laws you want. But Canada gun laws can stay in Canada. I will not have my rights stripped away from me especially when violent criminals continue to get firearms illegally even in Canada. Also a majority of American gun owners are hunters as well.

To be fair anyone with their phone on during a movie should be shot, that should be posted on the door.

Guns were prohibited in the movie theatre. He brought one in anyway. But he still got aquitted. The old man is very well spoken. I listened to parts of his trial on a YouTuber's little doco about it. He's articulate. I actually think the prosecution DID prove their case saying that the old man had no bruising on him when he said he bruised easily and tried to claim that the victim threw his cell phone and that it hit him in the face. And also every single witness said that the younger man did not get out of his seat and never said "I'm going to kick your ass" and didn't throw anything other than popcorn. Only the defendant said Olsen got out of his seat, threw a cell phone at his face and said "I'm going to kick your ass." So not sure why the jury acquitted him on all counts.

The key isn't only the concealed carry, but to train for the scenario. Bring a chair to the range with you and practice your seated draw.
This seems to be a regular case of PTSD from a retired Combatant.

I have trained enough to be proficient, moreso than the average person. What are the odds that the person targeting me is a highly trained, killing machine who has instantly locked onto me, specifically? If someone shoots me before I can even think to draw, it would be pointless anyway. I could situate myself in literal seconds from any position to draw.
I think people overthink it. Overthinking it gets people killed just as easily. I can draw just fine from my holster sitting down. It's inside the waistband clip holstered on my joggers and the gun clips out easily.
Something about carrying heightens my situational awareness. The weight of the gun reminds me that I have the ability, duty and responsibility to protect myself and often times my girl/others around me. I am comfortable with my ability. Not to say I can't improve. Certainly I can, but again, how prepared can you be really? I can handle a gun without thought in a safe manner, I believe that equips me far better than most and that's all I need to greatly increase my odds of success.
Classic American move. Wouldn't expect anything else.
