The electromagnetic field the copper coil generates is so small it doesn't get picked up at airports. In my exp they can get picked up by wands if they're firmly touching the hand directly. EMP would turn it into a brick, but they're easy to remove via a small incision.

I just did it myself, no numbing cream or local anesthetic. I'm not gay.
