HF's reputation ruined by skids

Hi all,

Yesterday, I came across a video from a security researcher I occasionally watch when it comes to cybersecurity topics. I noticed that he had uploaded a video titled "An AI Botnet," and while watching it, I saw that he was reading a post from one of our members who had shared some AI generated slop. I was honestly kind of mad when I saw that, especially since the user had only one thread and one post. The author of the video highlighted it a few times and even made a few subtle jokes about the community, mentioning that a lot of weird people hang out here. To some extent, I understand where that comes from, but it also hurts the reputation and purpose of this forum. People like this just make our community look bad, while I personally know a lot of genuinely skilled and talented people from here. I really hope we see that change at some point in the future and that there will be fewer and fewer skids flooding the forum with AI-generated slop.

There are people with various skill levels in every community. HF has always had skids - I used to be one. But the community kept me interested in tech and through it I was able to learn and eventually make a living programming.

AI slop is another topic but it’s important to share knowledge and be welcoming of new members. Call out BS when you see it but if any member shows an interest in a topic you know about then we should do our part as a community.
I'll say it again I miss how HF was in the early 2010s. Agree on the AI posts by members, def needs to stop. if I see a thread that looks like an AI wrote it, I stop reading instantly lmao

But yeah there's a lot of skilled people on this forum. Since I've been back I never see any really helpful threads or discussion in other parts its usually the lounge and prolly 2 other sections... I do wish that would change as that made HF exciting.. and please don't use AI to write helpful or tutorial threads either, people can't do shit without AI these days :/

There is nothing wrong with not understanding certain topics. If you show genuine interest and are willing to learn, you will usually get decent feedback on what you should focus on and improve. What I'm trying to say is that it's pretty obvious when someone comes here without bringing any value and, on top of that, spreads bullshit just to increase their post count or farm popularity. When I see someone who doesn't know much but is genuinely curious and eager to learn, I'm always happy to help. I try to explain things in a way that makes the information easy for them to understand and grasp.

And when you create a tutorial and someone asks a technical question, you then wait for the tokens to reset so you can prompt the AI again and give a feedback to the user... I mean AI is good in general, especially for automated stuff, but using it to create tutorials without going through it to clear out the false statemets is wild

I think a lot of people start off as a skid, the difference is those that then become really interested carry on and take the time to learn and then not become a skid.

Those looking for a 'quick hack' remain skids.
Any community regarding hacking/technology there are going to be skids. A shame he’s viewing the whole community like that off one post from a random
To be fair, when you give them places to flourish (ebook section ect) they are always going to be around.

Site needs an overhaul of the sections in my opinion

Exactly my thought, you shouldn't consider an entire community like that based on 1 post. It's quite understandable that every forum will have skids, you can't eliminate it unless it's an invite only board.

I have some very huge ideas and projects to help with this exact issue and a host of other issues. It 100% requires an ecosystem within the community to work together. Most others have tried, but I have really put a ton of effort into building a full framework and ecosystem to do so. I hope those of you that want to be a part of it will. While I've been a part of these forums for 16 years I've seen a ton and I think outside the box outside of the box. If you're interested send me a message.

That sounds good, I am 100% up for that, however due to real life events on a daily basis I cannot guarantee how active I will remain. Would love to see the idea though

Perfect, I'll add you to the roster when it comes also if you could PM me about categories, subforums, topics, skills, etc. that you'd be most interested when you get a chance that would be perfect and that would help me organize whom to contact about what because this is a massive project.

I understand real life, I have it too whatever you could contribute without burning yourself out or neglecting real life is what would be important to me. :)

Also, if you have anyone else you're close to that you think would be interested send them this way as well because each and every subforum will be targeted. Once I finalize the project's contents and all of it is improved I will send a copy of the entire operation to everyone committing to help in some way.
HF brought in a 18+ accept page a whileago sadly kids will always bypass this just look at adult contnt sites, they can get on them day in day out. At the end of the day the internet will always have youngsters come and go, some will stay some will troll, and some will learn and show true passion towards what they have learnt. We all start somewhere and its never going to change sadly.

What kind of slop are you talking about? There's always been skids on HF and on the internet.

Check out the most recent comment someone called him out saying he fabricated the whole thing because it was an AI generated one post one thread account LOL
Just like mainstream media paints certain things as bad or evil based off just one small detail. Anyone who believes this shit and doesn't do his own research is a sheep.
