Is Perfect OPSEC Even Possible?

Connect via the Wi-Fi of a public cafe, use Tails on a disposable laptop, use a VPN of your choice, use only Monero, route all traffic through Tor, adjust your way of communicating and your online behavior, don't trust anyone (it could be an FBI agent), never log into personal accounts, etc.

Whenever I think back to the last operation, I get caught in a rabbit hole of all sorts of scenarios about how I could have been caught – of course, most of them only apply to state-backed attackers and not some random skid or doxer, but still: Do you think it would somehow be possible to carry out a hacking operation that leaves no trace and makes it physically impossible to that anyone –even a state – can trace them back to you?

Let's be honest: You're dealing with people who can retrieve all your data from any company within a few hours via EDRs, who monitor (and sometimes host) Tor and VPN nodes, who have countless 0-day exploits ready that can be deployed or have already been deployed (who really knows), and who can do absolutely anything what they want, and most important have capabilities we don't even know about, Snowden's leak was 13 years ago roughly so who knows what secrets the US government(as an example) have now about how they're invading all of our privacy.

I'm curious to hear your opinions:)
Maybe I'm just paranoid, lol
You can get noticeably close to perfect if you want to put the work in.

Of course it’s possible!! I’ve been into hacking for almost 30 years. Back in the day, staying anonymous on IRC was mad easy. However.. these days, you’ve gotta know Linux and run hardened distros like QubesOS if you wanna stay low-key. Hackers are basically why OPSEC is still a thing. Some of them are pulling in millions and never even get caught... cheers
I actually released a free code for operational security and hardening toolkit here in the opsec section, can also find it in my signature, you can harden your host, VM and VPS all in one script I shared, be sure to check it out, claim back your anonymity
Nope.

If the police want you, they will come for you.
That's a fact.

Can do the best you can to prevent leaks but it's a matter of time, and overtime people become complacent.

Stay strict with you OpSec

They really just have to wait for you to mess up, which eventually, you will.

They've got all the time in the world...

But is close to perfect enough? That's the real question, do you make yourself to expensive and annoying to track down that the reward of catching you isn't worth it?

How come the cops still can’t catch me? It’s been years.. I’m still waiting for them to pull up if they ever can!

Careful what you wish for.
If you need it, you can stay safe. I spent years researching about this years years back, but the country I am in right now I dont need it, but there is exact ways, its funny someone mentioned snowdens book, his book is actually very informative how limited FBI is, when they couldnt even reach Ladar with Lava email project of his.

it makes no sense what you say. So the zodiac killer spent decades without being catched, even thou the whole police deparment wanted his ass, jus t because he was a super human or something? no.

The reality is that if you're commited enough to it, you could live the rest of your life without being catched. But only if you're commited to it.

Back in those days everyone was monkey. Nobody had a clue.. some humans thought patterns were too advanced in the days of old

that wasn't too far long ago either my brother. I do agree that for most people, trying to keep up with the idea of never get caught lacking might be a lot to deal with, but there's people through out history that has prooved that when you really want it, you can for sure live on without getting caught.

You posting this on a public forum tells us you're not as big of a deal as you think you are.

Lol.

Google was certainly tracking every movement, every cell reception ping latency, telemetry logs in 1968+. You are making a shrewd comparison to the life of 1970s to 2020s. They didn't have massive databases of DNA to cross reference nor modern science. by all means, use the Zodiac killer as a comparison to modern digital cybercriminals...

If you're going to make a comparison, make it post 2010 to now. If lockbit and all of the others can be unmasked, SectopRAT(Yellow) can be unmasked, Zeus... Yes. The police will come for you as a digital criminal.

Data is more valuable than blood in this ecosystem.
