On October 18th Alleged Drunk Driving GOP Governor Suspended his Campaign After Alledgedly Causing a 5-Car Crash.
After taking a very long look at the wreckage, Shawn Oliver announced on Oct. 18 that he’s suspending his campaign for Lieutenant Governor. The corrections officer and New Bedford city councillor posted the news on social media, before his phone battery died from all the incoming calls.
“This election is too important to be overshadowed by personal matters,” please ignore the part where my car flipped over like a stunt reel,” he said. He thanked supporters and asked for privacy, which is fair, because nothing says “rough week” like having to withdraw from a state-wide race and explain to your insurance company why several parked cars are now modern art installations.
Local outlets reported that police responded to a crash where a vehicle hit multiple parked cars and overturned. Two of the cars suffered extensive damage, Oliver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence, negligent operation, marked lanes violation, and speeding, basically collecting traffic charges like they were Pokémon.
His running mate, Minogue, chimed in with the political equivalent of “buddy, sit down.” "After speaking with Oliver, I asked him to suspend the campaign immediately and promised to request his resignation if elected." He added that Oliver “needs to put his family first” and “do the work to ensure this never happens again,” offering help if needed, which is generous, considering the circumstances.
