I havnt found anything on this so thought i'd post, it's nothing major.

Could something be done with the search bar at some point in the future to refine the results alittle better?
For example.. Security + firewall + Antivirus
Or
"PHP" - Search only this word
Or
(C++ PHP tutorial Security ) - Search all these words

Just because you can't find the results you want doesn't mean the search engine doesn't work well.
php will garner you too many results to be relevent anyways.
Site searches normally suck for the most part. It's actually one of the most resource intense functions of this site. I may one day add a Google Site Search instead.
how about making it so people can set tags or keywords to threads, when they make them, that would show up with relevance when searched? I dont care at all but this should boost my post count.
Yeah that's a modification I could add. Not sure how realistic it would be given that most titles are accurate here.

How would that work with permissions? (I.E. Searching HF L33T)
I've never had any problems with finding anything, it's just when it's somthing very specific
it takes so long too manually search through the results.
Im not one to be 'pernickity' though, you couldnt ask for much more on HF
Do you select to search only specific forums?
I'll admit ive only started doin that, really does make a big difference..
The edit - 'find on this page' helps too
They have a search query but the data look up is invalid it has to be complete and accurate. Still needs fixing.

It was never adjusted. On new server I might revert to Sphinx Search or some other better database search system.
