It's not that hard. A year or so in Web Development and a bit of creativity ought to be enough for anyone to get it.

If a facebook app evades the app lists it's an exploit, simple as that. I doubt Facebook has such a 0 day.

It's not a 0 day and it's not an app doing the mechanic. It USES an app, but not on the client's side.
