Lost or Stolen Account Policy

Eh, so if you aren't upgraded and your account is stolen, it's just gone and you can't recover it? Pretty fucked up if you ask me.

Why does omni have to go out of his way to help some random?

Those randoms are still valuable members of the community. You shouldn't help people only because they give you money.

I didn't know account recovery was a perk or a "feature".

It's not like I'd lose my account anyway. 😠

I've rarely created restrictions in non-Marketplace sections that push out non-upgraded members. I believe the exceptions are SRPP and RAT which both do have options based on Prestige to participate.

Account recovery is a cumbersome process. 2FA itself requires resources. I have no incentive to give regular accounts either. I am however considering lowering the price of 3P1C so that it's a viable option for members on a lower budget to at least have extra account security.

I also want to note that accounts lost or stolen are because members are irresponsible. It's not because HF itself is insecure. With the real logic that members are at fault for lost accounts the fact remains that even with 2FA or other security measures they will continue to lose their accounts to tomfoolery and shenanigans.

So my plan going forward is to recognize patterns consistent with a stolen account and create automated responses like alerts to staff, account marking, and even automatic bans.

If someone loses their account for dumb reasons, I agree with you one hundred percent.

However if something happened to their PC and they had to wipe and it and they just happen to lose email access to the email attached to their account then they should have a chance at account recovery.

A lot of email service providers have been locking super old accounts. (in Yahoo's case straight up deleting them)

If you lose access to your HF account and your email then refer to the original post. Your email will not help you if your account is stolen as the attacker will likely change the email on file. If you forgot your password to HF and lost access to your email then refer to the original post and see that you are held liable for remembering your account credentials.

Refer to the original dick.
My GAUTH seems to randomly reset every few days. Very weird.

If you are talking about the code you use to sign in with ex: Authy then yes it does change every now and then.
May I ask why It's necessary for the account to be RKO'd or rep killed if it was stolen? Sometimes shit happens and you get hacked, I don't understand in a case where someone has been a member here for years and years, and has also upgraded, should get their account fucked up especially if they supposedly got infected by something on this site. If you spend enough time on the internet you will slip up at one point and buy/download a semi-trustworthy program. Can someone elaborate? Thanks.

But surely, it's something on your end because Gauth would not just reset on its own.

It has randomly reset 4 times before I made the post. Hasn't happened since then. I will if it happens again.

I am talking about Gauth itself. It has happened 4 times now that Gauth was removed from my account and the account didn't show up in Authy anymore.

Anyways, seems to be fixed now & will contact Omni if it does occur again.
