We should probably have a separate section for them. Some are actually quite challenging (while I admit that most are just password search jobs that people think are hard).

People may still need to do them but flooding the C# section with them is not the answer. This is ^ 😉 (Dec 17, 2011 03:38 AM)Deceptive Wrote: Nah' they can go to http://www.CrackMes.du if they want to attempt to get it cracked. You mean crackmes.de? That site has been down for about 5 months now. ヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ

Quote:Are you insane? People are insane for having an opinion? Quote:That means you consider the below as the first part: How would reverse engineering even begin to fit into it? The whole point of crack-me's are to test ones own security, reverse engineering would lead to people cracking paid apps way before the allowance of crack-mes. Quote:I have seen quite a number asking for help about a compromised site. I suppose you mean "or". Again, that is not the place for that. Then why is it in the description of the section, I don't necessarily disagree with you, but then the WWH's description should not be what it is now. Quote:You must be thinking that members of this forum will use that knowledge for a good purpose. That is a bit disappointing, personally, since you are an HJT Team member and I expect that you know what is going on here. I know what you are talking about, but if Omni prevents tutorials then I don't see how it would help them any. As it will be only people that already know cracking cracking the crack-me's. Crack-me's can't hurt the security of a paid app, as if the security is already at the point where it can be cracked, then it will be cracked. That is the whole point of a crack-me. A fake app, that has the same security as their paid app, so if it gets cracked, they know to not release their paid app without increasing the security. If the point of the OP was to basically have a reverse engineering section then I disagree with it even being allowed on the forum, let alone in the WHH. Quote:For simply the purpose of organization, I'd say it should be moved to a "neutral" section -- say, the Beginner Hacking section, perhaps? The move would mean that how they use whatever they learn there is within their discretion. The site will assume no responsibility for any actions. I think moving it to a claimed "white hat" section will not do its image and definition good. As much as the original poster does not wish for such programs to stay in a coding section (perhaps even the coding tab) I, too, believe it should not reside in the White Hat Help section or the computing tab for that matter. I agree with this, my point was, since there is no designated section for it, based on the WHH's description it would make the most sense to put it there. 😖 Quote:People are insane for having an opinion? I wonder where the generalization came from. I'm very certain it wasn't from me. Calling you insane was an opinion of mine. Don't brand yourself with it too if you disagree. 🤣 Quote:How would reverse engineering even begin to fit into it? You need to learn what reverse engineering is. This is why you do not know what you suggested. Quote:The whole point of crack-me's are to test ones own security, Nope. They are mainly used for -- guess what -- cracking programs. The bigger picture would be -- voilà! -- juicy paid programs. Quote:reverse engineering would lead to people cracking paid apps way before the allowance of crack-mes. Not necessarily. Don't get both confused. The said programs will encourage that, not reverse engineering. Similar to Beginner Hacking, the latter assumes a neutral stand. Anyway, it isn't an issue of whether the forum should have such a forum, since it will encourage malicious activity more than anything else. Quote:Then why is it in the description of the section, I really do not see the connection between moving the threads and the first sentence of that section. Like I said, if a medium of stopping the above is to move the said programs into the section then you are truly confused. Quote:I don't necessarily disagree with you, but then the WWH's description should not be what it is now. I don't see anything wrong with it, besides the fact that it's more of just a help desk rather than a section to learn from. Quote:I know what you are talking about, but if Omni prevents tutorials then I don't see how it would help them any. Tell me, do you see any tutorials on how to crack CMs here? 😅 Quote:As it will be only people that already know cracking cracking the crack-me's. Hack Forums is not the only site to learn it from. Also, the known CM crackers here do not even post tutorials on the said subject. I do not see why you think the creation of a sub forum in the White Hat Help section will encourage them to make some, for if they really wanted to, they would have done so without the need for a section. If there were already numerous tutorials on the subject then Omniscient might have created a sub forum for it ages ago. Also, there is a difference between plain CM cracking and cracking. It latter invokes a negative connotation. If you have not noticed, most forums with a cracking section are generally involved in the distribution of warez. Quote:Crack-me's can't hurt the security of a paid app, as if the security is already at the point where it can be cracked, then it will be cracked. That is the whole point of a crack-me. A fake app, that has the same security as their paid app, so if it gets cracked, they know to not release their paid app without increasing the security. This isn't the case here, now is it? 🤦♂ Do you see such a scenario here? No, you don't. Hardly any coders here do that. The CMs here are either basic or just plain useless. I see the legitimate side of CMs, however putting it to the White Hat Help section is inappropriate since your definition does not apply to reality. Quote:If the point of the OP was to basically have a reverse engineering section then I disagree with it even being allowed on the forum, let alone in the WHH. No. You should read the title. He did not suggest the creation of a new forum, though some may imply that. Like I said, move it elsewhere, but not to the White Hat Help section. It will even be more suited in the Cryptography, Encryption, and Decryption section. Quote:I agree with this, my point was, since there is no designated section for it, based on the WHH's description it would make the most sense to put it there. 😖 And I am offering a counterargument since I do not believe it fits there. The description and your reasoning do not blend well. I'd still say utilize the Beginner Hacking section.
LMAO. Nice catch guy above me!
