Kanade's Anime Review [#1]

Mahōtsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora

Genres: magic, romance, slice of life
Studio: J.C.Staff
Director/Storyboard: Osamu Kobayashi

Other anime releases:
Gurren Lagann: (Storyboard, Episode Director, Animation Director, Eyecatch Illustration, Key Animation)
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: (Storyboard, Episode Director, Key Animation, Setting )

Storyline:
"Suzuki Sora is a cheerful country girl from the small town of Bie. She made a promise to her father, and following this promise applies and is accepted for a magic intership in Tokyo, where she will face the life in a big city. While training to get better with her magic, she meets a mysterious boy also practicing to become a mage. While he can not use magic that well and he seems distant and cold at first, Sora's fate intertwines with his and the two are thrown together, learning a lot of new things about life and each other."

The plot was very well written, and I don't see any plot holes anywhere. The only thing I could have wished for was that there would be some more action, but if you watch the anime, you will notice it wouldn't exactly fit the theme.
Personal storyline rating: 4.5/5

Drawing/animation:

Example:

This anime has some of the best drawings/animation I have ever seen. I do not like how the main character Sora was drawn, but everything else was pretty much perfect. The animators just managed to really portray the scenery in such a good way that is still astonishes me.
Personal drawing/animation rating: 5/5

Voice acting:

The voice acting is also really good. It is not your usual high pitched, squeeky premature female voices, and they actually sound more realistic, as to how it may have been in real life. But they wanted to make the voices this way, and to some people they may sound plain. But the anime is plain, slow, but beautiful.
Personal voice acting rating: 4/5

Music:

Example:

This anime doesn't focus on instrumental songs, like most other anime does. There is mostly, if not only, songs with vocalist(s), and I think they really managed to pull it off. The songs they've chosen for the anime really sets the mood, because they're so well written and make you burst out with emotions.
Personal music rating: 4/5

Afterthoughts:

There is a while since I watched this anime now, but when I found it, it was because I was looking for some epic magic fights and stuff. You will not see that in this anime. The anime is very calm, and goes at a slow pace.
I think people who love beautiful scenery, and love stories should definitely watch this anime. It is not like other anime, in storyline and animation, so if you'll have to be open for something a little different.

Final rating: 4.5/5

Note: This is the 2nd season, but I never watched the 1st season. I have read the plot, and they aren't really connected, so you don't have to watch it.

I may do occasional reviews if I feel like it, and people enjoy them.
Nice review bro. Not my type of anime but nice review.

A day or so ago, I made a thread asking if anyone knew some anime that had a similar art style to 5 Centimeters Per Second, and this anime seems like it might share some similarities with 5 CM P/S. As far as the calm storyline goes, it seems like something I'd be interested in. Not sure why no one suggested this before, maybe I'm wrong about the art style, but the examples you provided (particularly the railroad tracks) seem pretty similar to it.

I'll be checking this out, finding a torrent now.

Ty :)

Well, you should give it a go anyways. It isn't really like any other anime I've seen, but it may get boring for you if you want lots of action etc.

Sorry I couldn't really say, since I haven't watched 5 centimeters per second. I just googled it now, and it looks like they may have some similarities, at least with the scenery.

Hope you enjoy the anime :)
Adding the first season and second season to my to-watch list now, thanks OP.
Neat review OP. I don't think I'll watch it though since it's not really what I'd prefer. ^_^

Nonetheless, good job.

Haven't seen many reviews around here lately. Normally they don't all that much interest me but your review in particular seems to have grasped my attention quite a bit. I'm gonna look into this anime it seem's quite good. Quite liked the music example you gave and the plot as you've described seems quite good as well.
Kanade has done it again.
Tails presents you with an award of awesomeness.
Although this award is invisible just know, he is proud. lol
Wow, one of the best reviews I've read in a while. Why have I not watched this yet :O
Props Kanade, reminded me of giving you a well-deserved rep.

Off topic: Posting from Boston bishes, first time out of Europe ^^
This looks interesting. And if it has romance/slice of life, I'm interested.

Adding it to my list.
Nice review. Not my kind of anime thought. I'm more of a fighting anime type.

And so many people have already watched it, so it would be kinda pointless.. I made this one because I don't know a single person who have seen it :d

Should add how many episodes there are in the series and if it's a ongoing/complete series.
Will add this to the list, will watch after 5 centimeters per second. :3
