[Empire] Windows 7 vs Windows 8

This thread was made because I have received several questions regarding upgrading to Windows 8. I have also seen this question a lot in this section, and it's time to settle this.

Let's start, I'll show you a collage.

There are quite a few differences between Windows 7 and Windows 8, I own a Windows 7 PC and a Windows 8 Notebook.

Windows 7 is definitely good for you if:

• You want a stable operating system
• You want a operating system for work
• You want a operating system to game on
• You want a highly customizable operating system
• You want an operating system that uses a small amount of RAM in general.

Windows 8 is definitely good for you if

• You want a nice-looking new operating system
• You're a developer for Windows 8 apps
• You have a TouchScreen device
• You can get used to a different OS fast
• You are prepared to discover bugs frequently

I'll explain my statements.

Windows 7 is a stable operating system, more programs support Windows 7 and are still being developed to be compatible with Windows 8. The apps Windows 8 has, use more RAM than a normal program would on Windows 7. Windows 7 has a lot of third-party programs that could help you to customize it. Windows 8 also has programs like that, but fewer in number. Windows 8 can only reach it's max potential with TouchScreen devices, look at the design. It's obviously made to work in cooperation with TouchScreen devices. So if you do not possess a touchscreen device, I recommend Windows 7. Windows 8 has a entirely different design, the most notable thing is that it doesn't have the windows start button at the under-left side of your screen. You'll have to get used to this.

Some things about Windows 8 that might help you to choose:

• Windows 8 has a faster start-up and shutdown time than Windows 7.
• Windows 8 moves files slower than Windows 7.
• Windows 8 is generally faster with rendering video's.
• On factory settings, Windows 8 laptops & notebooks run out of energy faster than Windows 7 laptops in general.
• You are able to link your Microsoft email account to your Windows 8 System.
• While Microsoft's Internet Explorer probably isn't used by any of you, Internet Explorer 11 is the default browser of Windows 8 and it it's security is tighter than any other browser on Windows 8.
• Windows 8 blocks apps that are not created by "trusted" publishers. This does not apply to programs.
• Windows 8 Can be annoying with it's new desktop.

My conclusion:
Windows 7 is the new Windows XP, Windows 8 is the new Vista.
If you currently possess a Windows 7 device that doesn't allow touchscreen, stick with it. If you are looking for a new laptop/pc, make sure it's touchscreen-compatible and consider Windows 8.
If you're using your PC/Laptop for your work, stick with Windows 7.

I hope this helped a bit, I've seen a lot of threads about this subject.
Found an error already, always on the look out I am 👹
But nice thread overall Unknown 🙂

Fixed that 😝.
That one was pretty stupid 🤦‍♂.
"• You want a operating system to game on"

That's a rather questionable statement. 8.1 get's usually about 3-4 fps better compared to 7. The only issue arises for those that don't understand the concept of running updates and driver updates.

Amen.
There's so many people underestimating the Windows Updates and graphic card drivers updates (important ones) like ... it's part of Windows basics.

I haven't gamed for a long time on my PC, but some games still aren't compatible with Windows 8.

However it isn't decided by the operating system alone, we should also take graphic cards, the amount of RAM and hardware in consideration.

But I agree with your statement.
Windows 8 is a newer inefficient version of Windows 7, there is no need to upgrade if you think about it unless you just want it. It is only useful for portable touch devices. Nothing else is it useful for. Desktop PCs with Windows 8? Sounds stupider than a Windows 95 tablet, even laptops are barely exceptional. There is no real need to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8. If you think about it for some time, what for?

Only reason I can find myself is just exploring or developing apps, but other than that there is no real need.

Precisely Unknown. Wow, that is an unintended oxymoron. The general Windows computing population has no real need for Windows 8, "just because its new" might be a common reason why they'd want it. Anybody who is a developer or uses a Windows 8 tablet, and advocates to use Windows 8, I'd understand. All else who claim its faster have a thing or two to learn, other than boot & start up.
Nice thread, I find myself staying with 7 for awhile until there is a good reason to upgrade.

Let's bring this back up, I've been seeing the question again.

There's at least 2 threads created everyday that asks this question, lol.

Still not comparable to the "how to hack facebook threads" in the Beginner Hacking section 😉
What people fail to understand is that Windows 8 is made for mobile appliances, not Desktops. Laptops are edgy, touch screen laptops are more well suited. Tablets are perfect. Desktops? An analogy if you will:

Getting to your work with this every day:

There is no difference. Argument closed.
If you are a simply a consumer of content then a touch screen oriented O/S such as Windows 8, Android or iOS is going to be adequate. If however, you are a creator of content then a traditional keyboard/pointing device oriented O/S such as Windows 7, OS X, Linux or Unix is what you will gravitate towards. The vast majority of users are consumers of content not creators, and this is reflected in the rapid decline of PC sales in favor of mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets. A MS O/S is not likely to be a contender on mobile platforms despite its' best efforts as it has come too late to the market.

Take care
