This is for Windows 8, what would you recommend as a good, safe, fast and secure file deletion software that removes a file(s) entirely beyond recovery.

Destroy your hdd and melt it in a fire. Honestly, do that if you are that concerned about it. Else, removing it with any program found off google is more than sufficient. Heck, even just removing it from your recycle bin is good enough. I doubt anybody is trying to steal your data.

Data stands until it is overwritten. Overwrite your data if you are using a regular HDD

You can use a simple software like Ereaser or same Antiviruses "shredder" feature. It does the job.

Would AVG's file shredder do the job well?

Any kind of shredder, if they overwrite the location where the data was will do the job.
