103 Year-old sprinter challenges Usain Bolt
The 103 year-old Japanese sprinter Hidekichi Miyazaki, dubbed "Golden Bolt" holds the 100m world record for centenarians at 29.83 seconds. He is currently closing in on his 104th birthday and challenged Usain Bolt by telling him "Let's rumble!" and said "I'd love to race Bolt" after staggering at the Japan Masters Athletics competition that took place in Kyoto recently. "I'm keeping the dream alive. I try to stay in top shape and stay disciplined and healthy. That's important for everyone - even Usain Bolt." said Hidekichi Miyazaki.
"Let's Stockpile Toilet Paper"
Japan recently rolled out a "Let's Stockpile Toilet Paper" public-awareness campaign. The government officials do not want the residents of Japan to run out of toilet paper and be stuck pants down because of natural disasters. The deputy director of the ministry's paper industry and consumer goods division said, "In addition to the toilet paper that households keep for everyday use, we're recommending that they maintain a stockpile as well". Depending on how the public responds to this campaign, it could boost the paper companies that manufactures toilet tissues such as Oji Nippon Paper Industries Co., Holdings Corp and Daio Paper Corp. Japan is easily vulnerable to toilet-paper shortages since a earthquake can hit Shizuoka Prefecture any time soon. Shizuoka Prefecture produces about 40% of Japan's toilet paper tissues. Experts also warn that it may be due for a major earthquake. Toilet-paper shortages have happened in Japan before, which resulted in shoppers clearing all the toilet paper from the stores, some even getting injured trying to grab a pack. After the earthquake and tsunami, all shops within 370km of the earthquake's epicenter were sold out of toilet paper. The exhibition will take place on the ground floor of the trade ministry's office. Emergency toilet paper - toilet paper without the inner cardboard role meant for easier storage - will be placed there, and the ministry hopes to convince households to have enough toilet paper for at least a month in reserve.
Clannad's visual novel soon on Steam in English! Sekai Project announced during their panel at Japan Expo US that they are going to release Key/Visual Art's CLANNAD visual novel in English on Steam. Currently there are not many other details about release date from reliable sources. The visual novel brought as many people as the anime to tears until their eyes dried out. There's a possibility that it will also have upgraded HD graphics. Hopefully there will be more about this next week, and if there is, you will be able to find about it here, on AA Weekly News.

"There's no reason a fake can't do what the real thing would. And it's possible for a fake to be more real than the real thing."
Kirie has a really close resemblance to what we would expect if Shinobu was 3D. The cosplay is done just right, from the attire to the make up. The main focus of her cosplay would have to be the yellow eyes as well as the cheeky smile which is more comes with Shinobu's signature laugh. Kirie also manages to keep the hair flicks that Shinobu usually has while the sunhat is off which isn't something many cosplayers take into account, her facial expression really highlights the many expressions Shinobu actually makes. All in all, the cosplay Kirie managed to throw together is done extremely well, Shiro has manged to capture Kirie in her cosplay in just the right angles.

Synopsis
This psychological thriller, based on the manga written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno, is about Yuki, a loner who's not very good with people. He prefers to write a diary on his cell phone and talk to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina – The God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is more than a figment of his imagination when he makes Yuki participate in a battle royale with eleven others. The contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future, each diary possessing unique features that give it both advantages and disadvantages. Within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to survive until there is only one left standing. The winner will become the new God of Time and Space.
Characters
Deus Ex Machina
The god of time and space, Yukiteru's supposed imaginary friend and the mastermind behind the game. He is looking for a successor, which is why he gave future diaries to twelve candidates and placed them in a game of life and death. He seems to favor Yukiteru the most out of all the other candidates as his next possible successor due to the miracles Yukiteru is able to pull off, not paying attention to the fact that Yuno is helping him.
Yukiteru "Yukkī, First" Amano
The main male protagonist of the series and the First Diary user. Also known as Yuki (ユッキー, Yukkī), he is a 14 year old middle schooler who is a rather quiet boy with an anti-social behavior who doesn't talk much. He mostly sees things around him as a bystander and writes it down in his cell phone diary. Yuki becomes involved in the Diary Game when to his shock that Deus, a god-like being whom he thought was an imaginary friend turns out to be real, selects him as one of twelve contestants in a 90 day battle royale where they must kill each other using their special diaries where the last survivor becomes Deus' new heir. Yuki's diary is called the Random Diary, which written from his point of view, gives a detailed explanation of his surroundings very accurately whether it be the present or the future. While versatile in any situation, the main disadvantage of the Random Diary is that it doesn't tells him what is happening to himself which leaves him vulnerable. Furthermore, since the diary is written from his point of view, Yuki can be tricked into thinking something he sees is true without realizing it which is a disadvantage for other people who use the Random Diary.
Yuno "Second, Yunocchi" Gasai
Yuno Gasai is obsessively in love with Yukiteru (Yandere) as one can safely guess from just the simple name of her future diary. Yukiteru's condition and actions are recorded every ten minutes in her "Yukiteru" diary, it also provides small commentary made by Yuno in some of the entries. Its most obvious weakness is that it does not show Yuno's future at all—her condition, situation, or surroundings—unless it somehow involves Yuki. Working with Yukiteru's "Random Diary" diary, however, covers both of their diaries' individual flaws; as it has been said the two make for a perfect combo.
Tails' Opinion
Story? Whats that? Yuki Yuki Yuki. Thats what it is here. Honestly though, the concept is pretty cool. Mirai Nikki has a very interesting plot. If you were to read the synopsis and thought "Hey that sounds pretty good, its new and different and sounds pretty cool." Thats what it is, a very interesting plot and I give generous points for that but overall there is just too much bad to really call it even an average story... I give the story a 2/10
Have you ever seen me give a 0? Ive done my fair share of reviews and Im usually pretty generous. Now, I wont give the Mirai Nikki cast of characters a 0 but they really deserve it. The supporting cast is probably the thing keeping this from a 0. There is a key thats like a big eyeball and I thought it was hilarious. There are some supporting characters that are dreadful, but some are ok. I give the characters a 2/10.
The art. The only thing that wasnt really that bad. It wasnt good. Like at all. but it wasnt bad. Slightly below average is a pretty accurate description. Sorry this section isnt very long. The art is just kinda basic. I give the art an 4/10.
Overall, Mirai Nikki really shines in the enjoyment factor. That is if you can get past the nonsense. Personally I dont think Ive ever sighed so much watching a series and if I ever have to hear another YUKI!!! I might lose it. However, the action was alright and the mystery aspect wasnt bad either. But holy moly, the two main characters make me want to do very bad things to my pillow. Yes, my pillow, I thought it more appropriate than saying it makes me want to blow my brains out. In terms of enjoyment I give it a 7/10
Programmargorp's Opinion
Hey guys and welcome to another edition of AA Weekly reviews, where me and Tails either praise a series to high heaven or I bash it to oblivion with no hopes of redemption. Yandere characters, those who are a complete nutjob and can come to kill the one they live, or their partners for the sake of their love makes an appearance in this series as one of the main characters. If Gasai Yuno didn't pop into your mind instantly after reading that paragraph, you need to watch more anime.
Anyway, this week we're reviewing perhaps one of the most hyped anime series of 2011. That's right, we're doing Mirai Nikki (A.K.A Yuki, Yuki, Yuki; if you don't get this reference, go look up "Yuki Yuki Yuki" on youtube). Unfortunately you all won't get any guessing done in the last two paragraphs cause my review comes after Tails's introduction D:
Onto the story; Mirai Nikki is, exactly as the title implies, about "Mirai Nikki" or "Future Diaries". Basically one day a loner named Amano Yukiteru became so lonely that he started imagining a friend (conveniently) called Deus Ex Machina who (surprise surprise!) wasn't actually imaginary. Some time later, Yuki gets a diary that can predict the future, and so his adventures with his stalker Yuno continues. Now, Mirai Nikki was one of the first anime series I watched properly, but what I must say now is that looking back on it, the story aspect of this series was pretty horrible. In fact, Yuki's "imaginary" friend's name, Deus Ex Machina already fully describes what the story of this series is like. As usual, I don't want to spoil anything beyond the first 15 mins or so of any anime in my reviews, so I'll just straight up drop my opinion on it. The story is full of plot holes, Yuki gets unlimited plot armor (as expected), and in the end everything gets explained by absolutely nothing. Story wise I generously give this a 2/10
(Cause seriously, nothing can have a story worse than Cipher)
Now onto characters; in this we get:
Whiney main character Yuki, who can do nothing but scream Yuno and get her to save his ass whenever he's about to get owned. Also note that his personality is almost as inconsistent as Shu in the second half of Guilty Crown.
Whiney main heroine Yuno, who can do nothing but say "yuki" over and over again while stalking him all over the place. Note that her personality is that of a typical type-b yandere and receives zero development after that
Then we have a bunch of side characters that have absolutely zero development with an exception to Akise, who received the bare minimum of development for me to classify him as a character. Character wise I generously give this a 1.5/10
Now onto art. There's really nothing exceptional about the art, but it wasn't exactly badly done either. I'm going to leave this short as there is really nothing to say except that it's slightly above average. Art wise, I give this a 5.5/10
Onto enjoyment; most of us would have probably been through that phase where the first few anime you watch is awesome cause someone recommended those to you. Then you watch more and for the first 50 or so series you watch, everything deserves a 10/10. You will drop nothing during these first few series and would always be eager to watch the next episode. My first 50 were like that, with the exception of Mirai Nikki.
Mirai Nikki at points were so boring that I pretty much had to force myself to watch some episodes and IMO is pretty much not enjoyable at all. Enjoyment wise I generously give this a 1/10.
Okay seriously, I personally find that there is no reason to watch this show, unless the only things you think are awesome are Filruto, One Stall or NaClO, I see no reason for you to watch this series at all. That said, if you feel like watching it to see why I'm bashing it so much, feel free to join me in a part of anime history.

Synopsis
In the year 2022, gamers rejoice as Sword Art Online - a VRMMORPG (Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) like no other-opens its virtual doors, allowing players to take full advantage of the ultimate in gaming technology: NerveGear, a system that allows users to completely immerse themselves in the game world by manipulating their brain waves to create a wholly realistic gaming experience. But when the game goes live, the elation of the players quickly turns to horror as they discover that, for all its amazing features, SAO is missing one of the most basic functions of any MMORPG - a log-out button. Now trapped in the virtual world of Aincrad, their bodies held captive by NerveGear in the real world, users are issued a chilling ultimatum: conquer all one hundred floors of Aincrad to regain your freedom. But in the warped world of SAO, "game over" means certain death - both virtual and real…
Main Characters Kirito
The main protagonist of the story. After getting stuck in Sword Art Online he becomes beater (A cross between a beta tester and a cheater) and becomes one of the few who can solo the ‘front lines’ or highest achieved levels of Aincrad. He is the quickest player on the whole of SAO and doesn't think twice about protecting others.
Asuna “Lightning Flash” Yuuki
Asuna is a friend of Kirito, the top cook in SAO, sub-leader of the guild Knights of Blood Oath (KoB) and is also the main love interest of the manga. She is a very fast rapier user who doesn't want to see anyone die.
Vandie’s Opinion
As much as I love SAO even I must admit that this manga has some serious problems, not least of which is the pace at which the story moves which makes it feel ridiculously rushed. The fact that they didn’t make the story flow very well resulted in the whole thing feeling very disjointed and didn’t really help either. All of this aside the story does try to follow the original SAO plot even if some of the best bits were removed. I’ll give the story a6/10
When it came to the characters I must say that I felt a little bit upset that so many characters from the original story just weren't even included in the manga and those that were had so little fleshing out that if I hadn't seen the anime before hand I wouldn't care in the slightest if one of them died. That's not to say the characters weren't interesting just that it was very difficult to feel a connection with any of them. The characters can have a4/10
The art style was one of the few things that can redeem this manga, The Characters faces were soft and neat and the scenery looked great (even in black and white).Even if it differed from the anime I really didn't care as I loved looking at every single tile of the beautifully drawn manga. So to redeem this manga slightly the art gets a slightly higher7.5/10
Overall the manga was a good read even with all of its flaws, I don’t really know why they didn't spread it out a bit more instead of cramming it into a single volume but sometimes it happens.I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone who doesn't already enjoy SAO as this is not really a good representation of it but if you do, don’t be expecting anything you haven’t already seen in the anime.
Vandies Rating - 6/10
If you want a manga reviewed please send vandie a pm with the name and a link and I’ll consider it.
Grisaia no Kajitsu was produced in 2011 by Front Wing (A new developer to me finally).
The story starts off with our protagonist, Kazami Yuuji, his parents died while he was little and he was taken under the wing of a Shishou, which meant
he underwent intense training that makes boot camp look easy.
His Shishou died at some point and he decided that he wanted to go and have the normal student life, he can't remember why he ever wanted such a thing as the girls at Mihama Gakuen are quite the handful.
Story Review:
Now if you think back to 90% of the visual novels I have made a review about, you remember that I've been pretty damn generous with my rating,
Grisaia no Kajitsu changes that, it had a terrible plot, poorly written characters (Seriously did they write the story then just stuff the characters in?) and worst of all NO HOOK.
If you've played G-Senjou no Maou you remember the HUGE hook in the main route (Maou you cheeky bastard) Grisaia no Kajitsu is utterly pathetic.
Sound:
I have to admit that Grisaia no Kajitsu had an awesome soundtrack, the company didn't want me to have the album since I can't seem to find a DL anywhere for it.
If you have some spare time just listen to the soundtrack, it's better then the VN.
Art:
The art was the only thing that even made me able to finish 2 routes, one tsundere and then a loli that are beautifully drawn, what's
not to love?
Some screenies. Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View) Spoiler (Click to View)
Overall Satisfaction:
All in all I honestly don't believe it's worth the time to play, google the CG and have the soundtrack going and you'll get the gist of it. Story: 3/10 Art: 10/10 Sound: 8/10
(Click to View) Bleeding: Hey Jay (or whatever your name will be in a week), how are you today?
Jay: Haha hey Bleeding I'm doing pretty good, still feeling the after effects of White Album 2 but other than that fine.
Bleeding: I see you're a man who goes for the feels, nothing wrong with that. Before we really get into this interview I would like to get to know you a little better. So why don't you tell the readers and me a little about yourself.
Jay: I most definitely am. Well I will try to keep it brief. I am 18 years old recently graduated from High School with a solid 3.5 (god bless). I live in the United States somewhere along the west coast and I am currently preparing to leave for Basic Training for the United States Navy.
Bleeding: Man the Navy huh, sounds like you got a good plan for the future for yourself. I always wanted to join the Air Force myself but I never got around to it. Now I know this is a tough question, buts it’s something I like to ask all my interviewees. What is your favorite anime and why?
Jay: Ahhh yes. The dreaded question. I have watched so much romance anime that sometimes I struggle with deciding the answer to this question. For the sake of today's interview I will say that my favorite anime would have to be Phantom ~Requiem for The Phantom~. The plot follows a young man who is brought into the world of assassins. He is trained and molded into being a cold hearted killer. His trainer, a woman around the same age as himself, becomes his partner. He learns to cope with death fairly quickly and loses who he originally was. The anime entails his struggle to save not only himself, but his partner. The plot is truly fantastic and kept me into the story all the way through. The character development was also extremely well done and really gave the viewer a sense of what the male and female main characters were going through. This anime, to me, was fantastic. It was the first show I watched and really got me hooked on anime.
Bleeding: I have yet to see Phantom but it has been on my to watch list for as long as I can remember. I'm sure we all remember that "one" anime that got us actually interested in anime. Now is Phantom ~Requiem For The Phantom~ an anime that you would generally recommend to a casual anime viewer or maybe you have something else in mind you would recommend for someone who's just starting out?
Jay: I think that there are better introductory series then Phantom. Shows like Death Note and Code Geass are very beginner friendly. However, I would still recommend Phantom alongside them because while it has a backstory of romance, it is mainly action which tends to be the draw in for most first time anime viewers.
Bleeding: Ahh I see, Code Geass is definitely a good started for someone looking to get into anime, one of the first I actually watched myself. From what I see from your posts you seem to be a romance buff. I fancy a little bit of romance myself seeing as it’s my favorite genre. Is romance your favorite genre? What draws you to this genre?
Jay: Romance is by far my favorite genre. I think I started out mainly watching Action series such as Black Lagoon, Trigun, and Gundam and then transitioned to romance anime. I would say the story telling more often than not draws me to series in this genre. For some reason I love being able to watch a series and then be emotionally effected by it. Seeing things such as break ups, heart breaks, and two characters coming together really out shines the attraction of other genres. I am by no means a soft guy, but I would be lying if I said that I haven't cried multiple times due to a show. I guess I am sort of a helpless romantic.
Bleeding: I know the feels friend, especially about being a hopeless romantic. Let me ask you now, what is a really good romance that you would like for every one of the readers to see at least once if they could?
Jay: One really well done anime that I would recommend to anyone wanting to get a good start in the romance genre would be Kimi No Iru Machi. It is a heart breaking anime that revolves around a young male named Haruto and his struggle to come to an understanding of his own feelings and his relationship with two girls. I would say make sure you watch the full series and not just the OVA.
Bleeding: Lol I'm pretty sure I asked you about that anime last night and if I should watch it or not. Hopefully if I can get some free time tonight so I can start watching it. Let's change pace for a minute and talk about not anime but the AA community. Lately it seems like I've been seeing more and more new faces around AA. With new faces comes more activity and with this new activity the lounges that we have seem to go by in no time. Do you see this as a problem? Do you think there are any ways to fix it or should we just let it be?
Jay: Hah. Yeah I agree that we seem to be picking up more activity in the AA subforum in general. In regards to your question about the lounge I don't really see a problem with the amount of posts. I view the situation like this. Regardless of how many stickies we have and regardless of how many times we post on newcomers threads (about recommendations or old topics that have been posted) there will always be those types of threads. I think if the lounge can act as a place for people to talk about anime without spamming our subforum with those threads then there shouldn't be a problem. I remember times during 2012 and early 2013 when AA was almost always dead for an entire day with little to no posts. I enjoy posting in the lounge and think that as a community it offers a way for us to discuss things that members from say The Lounge wouldn't like.
Bleeding: I really like your take on AA in general and tend to pretty much agree with you. I for one love seeing all the new activity around the section and glad more people are becoming interested in anime. The only dislikes I have are all of the generic recommendation threads that can easily be answered from reading the stickies. Well that's about all the time I have for now bud. Thanks you for letting me bore you for a little while and I hope you enjoyed the experience. Lastly, is there anything you would like to say to our readers?
Jay: The only thing I have to say to anyone that read this interview is to stay active and keep AA a fun place. Sometimes we forget that AA is its own little community and as a result we act uptight when new people join. Try to guide them in the right direction and make their experience as fun as it has been for me in the past two years.
Bleeding: Wise words my friend. Well I hope you have a good evening and once again thank you for doing this! It was a pleasure.

AA Weekly Returns!
After a short hiatus, Anime Adventures Weekly has returned and this time better than ever. This is the first "alpha" version of the new system in AA Weekly. Other than the graphics and a few layout changes most may not notice a big change. This is because the big change was aimed towards having a better system to submit articles and keep things on time. The main reason I did this was to keep AA Weekly going no matter what incase I ever leave. I doubt it happening soon but if it ever does, we now have a system where anybody should be able to step up to the plate and takeover with no big worries about organization, that way fans shouldn't need to worry about a big delay in each weeks news unlike before. Oh, and if you want to help us you can by checking out our recruitment thread; we're always in need for more journalists! Thank you everyone for your patience while this was happening!
Happy to see this weeks release after our small hiatus. We still need you guys to let us know what needs to be changed, improvements and what you like to see. It'll help us please you a little bit more. Wink.
As for the Manga Highlight, I completely agree with your opinion, Vandie. Everything felt too cramped and predictable, however, it's not really bad. I think SAO has taken a huge turn into the average, generic Anime of what we call 'mainstream'.

Thanks tweets,
Id like to follow up by saying a huge thank you to all the readers and say that I am truely looking forwards to getting feedback from you all so we can continue Informing and entertaining in the coming issues.
Another fun read, thanks for doing this guys!
I'd like to see the 103 year-old Japanese sprinter vs Usain Bolt.
Hmm how about updates about upcoming fall anime.

Looks good. A lot better than usual. The overhaul and three week hiatus was clearly not for nothing. One suggestions that I just thought of though. You should have announced your haiku giveaway winner in the AA news. Would be appropriate I feel.
I hope that race between Usain Bolt and Hidekichi Miyazaki happens. It should happen, I mean the guy is 103 years old so make his dream come true!
It's interesting how Japan can have toilet paper shortages. I would think they save a lot of toilet paper since some popular public places (e.g. train stations) don't provide toilet paper in their restrooms.
Those were some strong music video choices guys. I really liked the first song; great vocals and awesome guitar. I couldn't help but smile throughout the second song. Those chicks had exceptional harmony and looked like they had fun making the video. I sent a youtube private message to their channel proposing to the one in the glasses. Fingers crossed The third song had some really chill DnB vibes which surprised me (in a good way).
I'm really diggin' the cosplay corner and visual novel additions. These topics aren't discussed very often (relative to anime/manga) and hopefully they will spark some interest in more members.
Overall, I enjoy the new AA Weekly and it's good to have y'all back. Change is a good thing. ✌
