MRT Forum Posting Restrictions

I've seen this feature somewhere before; possibly not on MyBB but I just thought I'd throw the idea out there:

So the MRT forum will be empty in the front end, but all MRT members have access to all the threads created. Users who create threads in the MRT section will be able to view his/her own thread. No one else besides mods and staff will ever know that the user created such thread and able to read the thread.

I make a thread in forum. Only the MRT and I can see the thread. The sub-forum looks bare to anyone else.

I've been trying to get that implemented for 3 years same with the time between posts. My solution would be to make a hidden forum or make MRT a type of staff member that only has permissions in that part of the forum.

It's basically what D3xus just posted a few posts above yours 😝

My era of providing technical support and malware removal on HackForums is over, so you can stop PM'ing me about it. Sorry.

How did the SEO work with the Reputation Abuse Forum, then? Unless, due to the nature of the forum, it was never really an issue?

I don't think it would be difficult to restrict users to only posting on their own threads. Something like this...

If a user is the OP of the thread, they are allowed to post. If the user is the member of a specific usergroup (MRT for us), they are allowed to post. If the user is a Staff member or Administrator (for logistical purposes, mind you,) they can post. Anyone who fails this check will get the permission denied error. However, anyone can start a thread in this forum. MyBB probably has a way, or some sort of function, to determine if a user that posts in a given thread is the creator of that thread. If it doesn't, I can't imagine it would be too difficult to create.

This could potentially have uses elsewhere on the forum as well.

If you are Ub3r and 3p1c, you have pratically close to no time between posts, so you're good now.

Any moderator of a forum is free from posting restrictions in the subforum they moderate. If all members of the MRT are made moderators of the forum, or if the usergroup as a whole is appropriated as a moderator of the forum (similar to Moderated by: Mentors), then you don't have to wait 30 seconds in between posts.

This is Tha Sneak we're talking about. He knows everything. 🤭 Even 5 seconds is time wasted for an MRT member (or however long it happens to be now.)

Yes and no, I never said moderators of the entire forum; just moderators of the MRT section. Not everyone in MRT deserves to be a moderator of the MRT section because of training restrictions.

I'm not 3p1c.

If I had OMC I would gift it to you 😟
But yeah I agree that sometimes, 5 seconds can be wasted time when posting in a lot of threads (I experience this every morning and evening, lol).
I thought that maybe Emylbus could implement some kind of warning on HFES if someone is about to reply to a thread in the MRT section that isn't his, or display a warning in Javascript when he access the forum, but that would touch only a portion of the members, those who use HFES.

I do not think Reputation abuse was part of a SEO since it was a private forum support more or less. I agree with everything except one -- making the forum visibility private.
Take a look here. You may view all the posts but can only reply to your own thread. Only those with the ranks Seniors and above can attend to the logs.
I was talking about such a system.

We already have a group called MRT Trainees for the trainees. Only full fledged helpers are among the actual HF MRT group.

By forum, I was referring to just the MRT subforum, and not every single forum (Staff.) MRT members have enough to deal with. Like ven0m said, there is an MRT Trainees usergroup for people who aren't yet full-fledged MRT members. Anyone who is a member of the legitimate and "full" MRT usergroup would have all the posting privileges they needed.

Makes enough sense. It comes down to what Omni and the MRT agree upon, but I could see something like this happening.

The system that is in place on that forum (and other Malware Removal forums) works quite well if you ask me. It's actually, very, very clean. You can clearly see when a thread needs to be replied (since it will always display no replies or a last reply from the OP itself) and you won't see someone else (a random) posting in it. They use IPB as their forum software but I guess a such thing is possible under MyBB as well. Hopefully it is 🙂

I say set that forum so you can only view your own threads and posts OR make it so only members in the MRT group or the original poster can reply to it. That's what sites like BleepingComputer and G2G do.

I'd prefer it possible for everybody else to be able to view the threads but not be able to reply to them. It's nice to be able to look at what MRT is doing and attempt to learn things from them.

There is no such restriction, actually. It just so happens that their members are disciplined enough not to post on threads they know nothing about, but they technically can. It is only the trainees who are unable to post in that section as per their group permissions.
It really doesn't make a difference anymore it'd be a waste of time to implement anything. It'd be easier to just give MRT helpers moderator powers over the MRT section specifically so we can lock our own threads, delete non-helper posts, etc. Its not necessary though.
