Step 8: To do so, find sethc.exe, and rename it “sethc-bak.exe”.
Then find cmd.exe, copy paste it in order to create a copy of this, and rename this copy “sethc.exe”. So when we’ll press 5 times on “Caps”, the program launched will be in fact cmd.exe with admin rights.
Step 9: Done! Reboot the computer!
Step 10: When on login screen, press 5 times “Caps” button, then a cmd.exe will appear. Type here:”net user”. This will make appear all users’ name. Once you found the user you want to bypass the session, type: net user “userchoosenremovingthequotes” *
Step 11: When asking for a new password, type it! (It will not be printed, it’s all normal)

Step 1: � Boot Backtrack from a CD or USB.

OPTIONAL STEP:
Some Linux distros (like BackTrack 5) don’t have the command chntpw added as an alias, so I had to do the following in order to get it to work properly, you might not need to do this on other linux versions as well.
But most of the time we dont need it.
alias chntpw=’/pentest/passwords/chntpw/./chntpw’
Step 3: Use the terminal to change directories to the password file.
cd /media/path/to/disk/WINDOWS/system32/config/
NOTE: The actual path can be found by opening the config folder and then opening its properties. The actual path is of the form as given below
/media/B830C9BC30C981BC/WINDOWS/system32/config
Step 4: Then execute the chntpw utility
chntpw -i SAM
That will create an interactive mode. Just follow the simple steps to clear the password or you can edit the password.The rest of the process is very simple and self explaining.But be sure to save it once it prompts to whether write to disk or not.

This is a “trick” called : The sticky keys trick. With this you can bypass or reset an administrator windows password. I am not sure if this can work on windows 8, but it works on windows 7, windows vista and windows xp.The whole point of this “hack” is to change the name of the .exe of the sticky keys (sethc) with that of the .exe of the command prompt (cmd) . What happens is that when you press five times the Shift button ,instead of the stupid sticky keys pop up window, you will see the command prompt because
when the computer takes the order to execute sethc.exe it will execute the .exe with the name sethc.Now, there are many ways to achieve rename the two files. But in this I’ll use Sticky Key Method:

Find the drive letter of the partition where Windows is installed. In Vista and Windows XP, it is usually C:, in Windows 7, it is D: in most cases because the first partition contains Startup Repair. To find the drive letter, type C: (or D:, respectively) and search for the Windows folder. Note that Windows PE (RE) usually resides on X:.
Type the following command (replace “c:”with the correct drive letter if Windows is not located on C:):
copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\
This creates a copy of sethc.exe to restore later.
Type this command to replace sethc.exe with cmd.exe:
copy /y c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe
Reboot your computer and start the Windows installation where you forgot the administrator password.
After you see the logon screen, press the SHIFT key five times.
