Some government or corporate firewalls censor connections to Tor's website. In those cases, you have three options. First, get it from a friend — Tor Browser fits nicely on a USB key. Second, find the google cache for the Tor mirrors page and see if any of those copies of our website work for you. Third, you can download Tor Browser via email: log in to your email account and send an email to '[email protected]' with one of the following words in the body of the message: windows, osx or linux (case insensitive). You will receive a reply with links from popular cloud services to download Tor Browser for Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, depending on the option you chose. Currently, the only cloud service supported is Dropbox. If you send a blank message or anything different from the options mentioned, you will receive a help message with detailed instructions to ask for Tor Browser via email. Please note that you can use this service from any email address: gmail, yahoo, hotmail, riseup, etc. The only restriction is that you can do a maximum of three requests in a row, after that you'll have to wait 20 minutes to use it again. See the GetTor section for more information.

Be sure to verify the signature of any package you download, especially when you get it from somewhere other than our official HTTPS website.

You can also try the following from a terminal:
Code
wget https://www.torproject.org/dist/torbrowser/5.0.7/tor-browser-linux32-5.0.7_en-US.tar.xz
Dont show yourself to be a ignoramus! if you have no idea of an issue just walk on by! if i did not have a problem regarding tor browser downloading i would not ask for a answer hopefully from someone with the knowledge
There's a page on the Tor website on how to download it on Linux.

Try using the terminal if Ice Weasel doesn't work.
You could also install another browser (other than Ice Weasel) to download Tor if it doesn't seem to be working.

I'd recommend trying the terminal first.
Thanks for that respect! i'm new to all this just trying to learn. The terminal did not work for me, so when i found a tutorial on downloading TOR through ice weasel it looked the part..the install goes to 95% most times then freezes...is there another browser like tor i could install through ice weasel ?

Did you try this on the command line?

Code
apt-get install tor

Because sometimes this doesn't work. Try either one of these:

Code
sudo apt-get install tor
Code
sudo yum install tor

Depending on which Linux version you're running (Fedora, CentOS, or Debian distributions) and in which kernel you're operating, the install command will be different.

https://www.torproject.org/docs/debian.html.en There's a full tutorial on it here if it still doesn't work (To the left there is a menu where you can select the Linux version you're running and get the apprioriate help).

If that all fails have you tried another browser than ice weasel? Try Opera for example:

If your using Ubuntu or a derivative of it, you can keep tor updated along with your other software by going to a terminal and adding this repo:

Code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/tor-browser

then press Enter to accept it.

Then run this:

Code
sudo apt-get install tor-browser

Tor browser is used to browse the 'deepweb'. The deepweb is full of sick, very much illegal and just perverted things. One does not simply browse it without feeling sick or becoming sick in the head.
So I'd recommend using anything else in combination with a VPN.

Tor can be used for clearnet sites (the www as we know it), but it's easy to get constricted in these sick sites. Curiousity killed the cat as they say. I know that from experience sadly.
Remember for future reference, you can use 'wget' to download via the CLI, instead of the browser.
It's such a useful tool.

Well i certainly do not want to go down the wrong path,or get involve with anything illegal and perverted, maybe thats why its so hard to download i now have it saying tor bowser should not run as root, i'm only interested in ethical hacking what other browser could i use for this type of hacking?

Well I'd say Firefox because it can handle a lot of plug ins, however a browser isn't really a hacking tool.

You can find tools to execute SQL Injection type of attacks but I'm not sure if they use a browser/what kind of browser they require. You could look around a bit in the Tools section

I wouldn't be messing with Tor yet anyway, try your luck with Firefox + a VPN or Proxy to stay hidden. There are many free VPNs like [censored] and good paid ones like PureVPN (if you go for a paid one, use BitCoins to stay anonymous).
Furthermore Tor is like a browser with a built in VPN, so using them separate should work nearly the same but might result in some more RAM space being used up. So as a beginner I would go for Firefox/[censored] combination and move up to a paid VPN when you're really getting into more serious stuff.

Make sure your VPN is always on when doing hacking stuff, because Tor doesn't protect you outside of Tor itself.
