With an API, you can pull data from Hack forums.
I used the API to check my in PM inbox for unread messages and send info of the unread messages to my phone via a push notifications:

It has way more potential than a push notification on your lockscreen. hf app and or variations of apps for HF. I was messing around looking to create an app for market users specifically, but there is a lot that goes into that

@Omni, if I changed my userscripts to work through the API rather than grabbing data, would you feel better about them? Or still no?

Since the requests would still be limited by the max hourly call limit, I would assume Omni would be okay with that, but I'm sure he will confirm either way

No difference, you'd still need multiple accounts to abuse the feature.
No different than signing into them and doing it manually.

Only abuse I could see would either be scraping info from them or using it to generate a level for marketplace deals/alerts - which I know Omni isn't a fan of.

I still feel as if it could possibly be abused by someone. Maybe not by means of sale but maybe a group of people intentionally create an app for just this, then all of them use their API keys and store it in a database. When the time comes, they enter in a rep comment and a value then add a persons UID and clicks send. You might not initially think its an issue but consider the number of accounts that have the possibility of being hacked or that have been hacked I should say. If someone have access to all of the accounts and builds such an app, they wouldn't be concerned about the data of the accounts, only the damage they could do with them.

Thats an idea that I feel could be used maliciously but honestly, I do believe it to be highly unlikely. This could be good in other ways I guess. I'm only seeing the bad though. I'm tired which doesn't help.

I would like to see an android app that sends me push notifications for PM's then lets me quick reply. That would be fucking amazing in my opinion.
