Quick Feedback Regarding Coding Sections

I've noticed this as well and it's annoying. I think it would be a good thing if there were certain restrictions for editing in said sections. Hard to implement though without it being more harmful then helpful.

Now that paid stickies are widely available at an affordable price, stickies now hold no meaning. That includes help desks that are only stickied because they're paid for to be stickied. (Not referenced for support on that OP's side. The topics mentioned in that thread are semi-relative with this separate issue.)

Not to mention, such an addition already exists and has existed since board members were able to pay to get their shit stickied. There were a few genuinely helpful stickies a few years ago but nowadays those that were held accountable to fit the old definition of "high quality" back then have literally nothing to conform to by today's member's expectations.

I do agree it is present across the board, though. However, like I've said: it's never changed nor slowed down so don't get your hopes up. Old/OG help desk method:

1) visit VB.NET section
2) post help desk thread
3) wait for questions, post answers to the first few on the first page
4) never post another answer again (past the second page, no one looks past the second page) and reap the benefits of having a thread locked with 2,000 replies, mostly asking all the same questions

I mean I'm not really referring to Help Desks, and if you looked at that thread, you'll see that I've replied, but I appreciate your response. An index of questions and answers that are asked and answered by multiple users is very different than a minimally useful help desk.

Glad to hear that staff do give out warnings over it though.

Not only are rules suggestions not allowed (as you pointed out) but suggestions as a whole are not being taken at the time.

If it becomes a major problem Omniscient will address it.

This is also why thread junking was removed. People abuse it. Don't let the edit feature be abused too.
Quite simple solution to this. Once they edit the thread to stuff like this, it's either LQ/avoiding the removal of the junk feature. Simply report these violations to a staff member through PM if it can't be reported, or if possible just report it. After a few warnings people will learn, I assume.

Christ... Many threads are recently. Forward that to a staff member.

14-fucking-pages.
It really sucks but the edit features has been abused. Editing a help thread to "answered. please delete" is something like selfishness. This is a community, we should help each other and by doing those things, you only help yourself. Maybe because of their ego and act like they don't ask question from anybody else but yeah, its not appropriate.

I'm talking about HELP thread.
Maybe I will remove edit ability the same as I did Junk. It grinds my gears too.

Members who edit their content to remove the quality are FUCKING ASSHOLES.

I don't think removing edit ability is the best idea. Maybe the ability to see the original post (maybe for staff?). Obviously, you can't save every edit nor is it really needed.

I always thought that would be going too far but at this members abuse it and don't see the problem. Hopefully this doesn't happen though.

Editing threads is definitely helpful in the event that you make a mistake in your post and you genuinely need to fix it for legitimate reasons. I can see how people abuse the feature though and why it may be necessary to get rid of it. I would prefer some kind of alternate solution as opposed to a complete removal of the edit thread feature. When I work on longer length threads, I would fear tremendously upon posting it that if I make an error, I wouldn't be able to fix it.

I don't care how bad of an idea it is. Likely I'd allow for editing where you'd only be able to add to the post and not edit existing content. It's just too fucked up when members edit their threads to remove the bulk of their content and it's not just every now and then. It's frequent. It's very frequent. It's bullshit.

I have low tolerance for bullshit and obviously removing junk wasn't enough. You'll all lose edit ability one day. That's nearly a guarantee because we have too many stupid fucking asshole morons still on HF.

I wonder if it'd be possible to create some sort of algorithm that depending on how long the original thread post is, you can only edit/remove a certain percentage of its content? So for example, if the thread is 2000 characters, you can only remove 10% of the 2000 characters, thus you can only edit/remove 200 characters worth of content? And additionally, like you said, you could add as much content to the OP as you wanted? I don't know much about coding, and whether or not an idea like this is even possible, but maybe that could be a potential idea to combat this issue that is forum wide.

A simple plugin which exposes previous revisions would be a good idea. 99% of the time it'd just show people correcting typos. But when some asshole does edit away his content, then it'll expose him. Not only this but people who say something and look like an asshole so that they then edit their posts to look better will also be exposed.
