Quick Feedback Regarding Coding Sections

(Aug 29, 2017 10:34 AM)Elitas Wrote:  A simple plugin which exposes previous revisions would be a good idea. 99% of the time it'd just show people correcting typos. But when some asshole does edit away his content, then it'll expose him. Not only this but people who say something and look like an asshole so that they then edit their posts to look better will also be exposed.

I think something like this would be a better and less harmful solution then removing the edit feature all together.
Personally I edit my threads (and posts) a lot to improve them as I'm sure others do as well.

Maybe a rollback plugin of some sorts to roll a post back to the previous edit and adding an report option to the report window for this. That way staff could easily detect, warn and fix posts that have been altered like this.
Then again it should be common sense that this sort of thing is not allowed.

I think the main issue with exposing posts/publishing them publicly is that it does impede on user's privacy. Some users when they leave the site like to delete/edit out their posts to nullify them. This can prevent personal information staying connected with them (not entirely but it is important to be able to overwrite accidental exposure of information).

How about this scheme: Edits shown on the site for more then 1440 minutes (1 day) will be shown in this exposure plugin. It's not incredibly important but I do know that some users relish the ability to overwrite their content for personal benefits (other than just blatantly being assholes).

That's actually not a bad idea as the plugin will only log a threads previous edit once a change has been made. That way it shouldn't be too heavy on the server performance and solve this issue.
I do think it would be good for people who (actively) do this to be banned or warned with a specific warning so even they know not to do it anymore from that moment on.

Members who edit their content to remove the quality are FUCKING ASSHOLES.

Not everyone removes content though, sometimes people add to the content or edit the content already there.

Oh please do not remove edit. Perhaps there's other ways, removing edit is very dramatic.

How about all edits which are remove more than 60% of the character in the post are sent for moderation?

Could you remove the edit ability from just those that abuse the feature?

Those who abuse should get closed. Not only lose the ability to edit their threads.

And any manually handled solution is not worth it.
Just read this but yes, I agree that its annoying. Often times, I've seen it where people edit their post to cover something wrong they did or to make themselves look good. It's quite annoying. Quality feedback suggestion.
My hat used to be somewhere along the border of being grey but over the past few years, I realized my calling is to learn and help others out in ways that I can ethically. Learn as much as you can, experience, grow, educate, and throw yourself in uncomfortable situations.

Why would you say manually-handled solutions aren't worth it? Aren't all warnings handed out manually?

Btw, this user has already been warned before for doing the same thing to another thread of his.

Because loading more work onto staff members isn't really fair. Ideally there would be a minimal amount of manual work needed to run this forum on a daily basis. This is a feature we would like to see implemented and the best chance of it being implemented is if we explore every aspect of it so that it has as little negative effect on the community as possible.

Which feature are you talking about and who is "we"?

It's their job. They might not be paid to do it, but they have the option of opting out and no longer being a staff member.

Regardless, I'm not being ignorant of your point, the workload would increase by a huge amount. I think Omni should add another report option for users who deleted their content. Staff can view it and then hand out a warning of such.

"We" being the people in this thread who support the suggestion and would like to see it put into place.

And sorry, I am talking about the suggestion of stopping users editing their posts.

I am arguing to automate the process instead of your recommendation of a manual process.

I mean if it is possible to automate the process then on earth not?

Your idea seems like a lot more work. Unticking a checked box labeled "editing privileges" seems like much less of a hassle.
