Is there ever a chance of account recoveries coming back? I know Omni completely shut them down, but is revisiting them at one point out of the question?

Suppose a slim chance but honestly my life is a lot easier just not bothering with it. If you've lost your account credentials that sucks but it was your responsibility to secure them. Often it's because members lose 2FA and didn't do the backup we advised them to do. Or use Authy which has backup. Sometimes members forget what their account email is or even lose access to their account email. They don't know their password and can't do a reset.

It's a hassle dealing with lost accounts. I was fine accepting a fee for the trouble. I felt it was justified penalizing members $10-$20 for their own lack of security. But all too often I'd get a lot of attitude about it.

I see no reason to allow recovery at all anymore. I know in a few cases HF might be losing a good member an I feel bad about that. But policies have to apply to everyone.

Well I can definitely understand that. It sucks cause I had no fucking issue with the fee. Crazy that people really talked poorly that much about a service.

If Omni does decide to bring it back I'm sure F8 wouldn't mind taking up the job again. Would be good to give members a way to recover accounts, even if losing access to it was their own fault.

more than fair to charge a fee especially when it's our own responsibility to secure what we have.

just like how every airline charges to rebook a flight. it's your fault for not making sure you booked your tickets appropriately. if it's the airlines fault, they'll handle it, but if not, it's on you.

I just appreciate after discussion, I was allowed to make a new account.

That stolen account was closed though, so there was nothing more I could do other than start fresh.

This would be a good return, a fee is reasonable too.

You should just allow it for a $100 fee. If your account is worth it, $100 is nothing for what HF is worth it. I’m always afraid to forget something or do a bad manipulation or loose the backup.

Honestly although it’s a little steep, it’s something I’d pay. But I don’t think the price of the fee was any issue in the first place to Omni and more of a way to enforce proper security.
