I think it can be added for some members to use. Other members would probably use that feature for faster access and some would not. We can have 2 ways to login, the normal one + social media.

I'm not a fan of "login with google/fb" personally. So long as it isn't a forced migration.

No idea what info gets saved between HF and those social sites, but it would deter me from using it if there was any possibility of my Facebook account and HF account getting released publically. Essentially what I'm getting at is, I don't want to be dox'd if databases got breached.

I've never been a huge fan of logging into websites with my facebook/twitter etc. It's a personal opinion, and obviously others enjoy using their socials to login to all the websites they view. It would be a great addon for Hackforums tho!

If it isnt forced then sure. Would give members more options to login which would be great for new members and activity imo.

Most users here would probably prefer the way it is now but that's just my opinion!

I much prefer the custom login because theres sites I don't want to associate my Social media accounts with. (For Security reasons)

I tend to agree with this. Sometimes its nice as an option.

My thinking is about new visitors who are probably used to joining and signing in with social media.  And I know it's much more convenient on mobile to login with Google.  Basically a couple clicks and you're in.  I'm not a huge fan of the social media login but I can't allow my personal preference to be the only deciding factor when it comes to attracting a new audience and updating HF to newer standards.


We can agree on that but does a fresh visitor who is 15-17 feel the same way?

Maybe I'm old and cranky now, but if a member is too lazy to take the extra 2-3 minutes to register, then they probably wouldn't do well here in the first place.

I always prefer custom login over social media login. I don't like my social media accounts being connected to other websites.

Over the past few years I've definitely used this a lot more often on sites, for convenience sake.
