Coca Cola Meets Ethereum
Blockchain technology is becoming more prevalent in enterprise environments. More and more businesses are looking at the vast array of use cases and are exploring methods of incorporating it into their workflow. Coca Cola is one of those. In an August 3 announcement, Coke One North America (CONA) outlined their plans to use the Baseline protocol. CONA is one of the largest partners of the Coca Cola bottling network in the United States and can influence how the industry as a whole uses blockchain technology. They previously experimented with a Hyperledger Fabric blockchain infrastructure that aided in supply chain management. It reportedly increased "transparency and efficiency" in their complex supply chain networks. The Baseline Protocol takes advantage of the Ethereum blockchain and aids in maintaining consistency between different records. >>Source

Ethereum Classic 51% Attack
Ethereum Classic experienced two almost identical 51% attacks within just seven days. A 51% attack is where a miner, or group of miners, controls more than half of a coin's overall mining hash rate. It can lead to a rather concerning problem. The miner(s) would be able to control which transactions go through and get confirmed. A double-spend attack would be rather easy to execute while carrying out a 51% attack. The attackers could potentially delay the transactions and confirm the second TX before even considering confirming the first one. For both attacks, the malicious actor spent a few hundred thousand dollars renting hash power from DaggerHashimoto. Almost one million Ethereum Classic was double spent, reaching nearly seven million dollars, and is suspected of having since been converted to other cryptocurrencies. Ethereum Classic Labs is looking to take legal action. >>Source

'Crypto Mom' Gets a Second Term
Commissioner Hester Peirce of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is getting a second term in office, lasting until 2025. She has been a monumental figure in moving the SEC towards a world where cryptocurrencies are more widely accepted. During her first term, she was dubbed as the 'crypto mom,' due to her enthusiasm and dedication towards regulating cryptocurrency in a recognized manner. In February of 2020, Peirce presented a proposal that would seek to allow developers to have a grace period where the SEC would not pursue legal action against them, for the first three years that they spent developing a decentralized network. It was described as "the most groundbreaking development for the U.S. cryptocurrency market." Furthermore, Peirce has publically disagreed with the SEC's stand in some cases, like their rejection of Wilshire Phoenix’s Bitcoin Exchange Traded Fund application. >>Source
