Surprised there is not a thread for this yet. There isn't too much to say, its a Ghibli film after all and the trademark creature is featured at the beginning of every Ghibli film since then.

In the simplest of terms, Totoro encompasses the very essence of childhood with adventure/curiosity and the pangs of growing up with the familial backstory. Through wondrous art, music, and lovable characters, this film delivers itself in that sense. At the heart of all Ghibli films is the power of visualizing the imagination; holding no limits to all that one can animate. The film is indeed targeted towards children, however watching it years later brings out a nostalgic peace of mind as one recollects on their own childhood experiences, good and gruesome. This is a film for everyone and for those who know Ghibli, they certainly hold their reputation well with this classic ;)

This was the first Ghibli movie I saw. I've since seen it many more times, both Eng dub and subbed. I want to ride in a catbus xD

This is definitely one of my favorite Ghibli movies, if only because it shows how good they are at creating memorable creatures.
