Has anyone here served Jury Duty?

I got a jury summons in the mail and I find out if I have to go in tonight, so in case I do go in I'm curious what that would require me to do, and what the day-to-day will be.

In my county the hours are 8:30am to 5pm, and the website says we're allotted two fifteen minute breaks and one-hour long lunch.

I'm genuinely curious what it was like for any of you, and if you got a summons I'm also curious of the likelihood of not being summoned.
You will be required to sit in a room full of other people who are highly thrilled to also be there and hope your name gets called to go home. More than likely, you'll do nothing but sit there. If you actually get assigned to a case, then you have to stay longer and actually be part of a jury.

Most boring experience of my life to be honest, we sat in a room for 8 hours for 3 days in a row. So happy I don't have to do that shit anymore.
I was called for jury duty about 2 years ago. I was picked to sit on a jury (cause even if you're called to the court you're not necessarily picked to serve on a jury) - well I just knew I'd be picked and it was no surprise when I was.

It was a kiddy fidler who was accused of abusing his nephew.
Most of the other jurors were women and had basically made up their mind the guy was guilty whenever they clapped eyes on him (due to his unkempt appearance) It was horrible having to sit there every day listening to that young man go into great detail about how he was abused. Hated every minute of it.

On a side note, I've withdrawn my name from the electoral register so that I'm never picked for jury duty again.

I was called up for it in 2011 (UK). It was pretty interesting, but the case itself was fucking horrific. You have to swear yourself in infront of the entire court that you will "review the evidence fairly". The statement was written on a card, one card was for people of a religious background so "I swear by almighty God that blah blah..." or one for people of no faith which was like "I affirm that I will blah blah...". I just said the God one because it was shorter, even though I'm agnostic.
I have not yet. I'm dreading the day I have to.
Everytime i hear about this i think about how much im gonna hate my life when i have to do it
Does everybody at some point end up on jury duty? I don't know if I would be happy to do it honestly but it does sound interesting. Maybe that's because I like reading about law sometimes though.

Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.

No actually, in the USA I read that only about 30% of the populace are chosen to serve Jury Duty in their lifetimes.
