Any tips for moving out?

Hey HF,

I know this will be interesting to say the least, but I plan on moving out with my Best Friend and getting an apartment.

Is there anything I should look pay attention to? or should to first time moving out. I'm 18, and I expect with two incomes for it to be 'Alright'

My estimated monthly bills should be around 1.3-1.4k/mo which is easy with two incomes.

Let me know,
.crowns
The only thing that shocked me was the bills! be careful of your neighbors (could be swingers or druggy murderers) MY neighbors are very racist to my dogs.
Also not just your bills, you end up spending money on other things such as TOWELS, CUTLERY, loads of different thiings you dont think of bro

Be patient when looking for spots. Don't jump on the first 'OK' one that you see. Sometimes it can take a couple months but the perfect place will show up eventually. Also know that there are multiple 'perfect places' so don't get discouraged if you don't get one. Each place has their own unique quirks that make it cool.

Also its totally worth it to pay the extra $100/month for a better neighborhood, bigger rooms, etc. Don't cheap out if you can help it.

Whenever I move I use Craigslist and Zillow to find a place. Check every day for new spots.

Yeah, it's going to be a mess, I added everything up and we don't need cable, just internet which is about $75/mo for 1gigup/down (we're nerds) and the monthly rent will be around 800-1k once we settle on a place.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed so far apartment hunting atm. I realized some places are like a couple bucks more a month. They still have the same as the other one.
Just got to remember that it's not a rush, I see that people tend to make it a rush to move out.

You're going to have the time of your life unless you lose gratitude. How does one lose gratitude? Personally, it happened to me by not taking care of my stuff. When you are truly grateful for something, you take care of it. Someone ungrateful for their body treats it like shit with junk food, lack of exercise, etc. If you aren't grateful for your crib, you'll probably join the hordes of young adults who leave a mess everywhere they go.

Moving out is fun as hell but it's also a challenge. I moved out the day I turned 18 into a home with a bunch of my friends! It was a blast until some of us (periodically myself included) shirked our responsibilities causing resentment between one another. Soon enough, I began to see our home as a nuisance rather than a privilege. Ungratefulness to the home caused me to further treat it like shit, making us even more mad at each other so on and so on.

You will love your roommates and hate them and love them and hate them (If you're blessed with the experience of having any).

You'll return home every now and then and realize how hard your parents work beyond their jobs.

You'll grow up into a man if you let it teach you the lessons you need =D
Don't forget good is pretty expensive as well
Box things up by room. Once everything is boxed up just dump the boxes in the middle of the room. Move not room by room and place in the correct room. And don't forget to write on the boxes!

Yeah, Quick Update I'm moving in with 2 others too, even easier income... this will be fun.
Make sure you know how to split up the bills with your roommate. Make everything clear as crystal so that there are no misunderstandings down the road.

This right here. Keep using Zillow, Trulia, etc, until you find the perfect place to settle down at.

I recommend a house, if you can afford rent, it will be worth it! :)

Apartment might be too small for some groups, and therefore you might not like it. 🤝
kingpin still livin with your mom is she the queenpin

Agreed 100%! Also make sure they have a stable income as well. It's easy to loan them the first few times; but when you start having beg/argue for YOUR money back. It becomes an issue. 🙃

Be sure you have a routine worked out.
What I mean by this is on x days you take the trash out, on x days he takes the trash out.
On x days you cook dinner, and on x days he cooks dinner.
This probably isn't necessary if you two work well together and know each other really well but it could avoid some simple conflicts like trash piling up and you two blaming each other etc.

Manage your utilities. Be aware of how much internet you have (if you have a limit) and things like electricity. Turn EVERYTHING off when you're not using it like lights, TVs and heaters. This also includes water so managing your shower time is important. You can probably ignore this if utilities are included.

As Steve mentioned - don't settle for the first place you find. Look around as much as you can because you could miss out on a really nice place for cheap or a cheaper place for a bargain.

He did say him and his bestfriend so I assume it's just them both.
