I wanna make an app that can play youtube on the background without any kind of root access, as an apk. But since the app store is not letting people do that I'd have to sell it as an apk, do you think I can sell it to people in the apk form? Would people buy it? If so for how much?

This is a waste of time, there are plenty of apps like this already. I believe I made one (android native, java) last year when a friend of mine was bragging about his "youtube red" lol.

People would more than likely trust Github instead of having to give up security on their phone/device for your closed source app.
