Sui Generis
Sui Generis is a group based around the arts. Previously we've
been exclusively limited to experienced artists.
However due to dwindling activity and lack of effort
on my behalf I have decided to open the doors to a larger
demographic.
So the doors are now open to music enthusiasts, and people
interested in reviewing and discussing music in depth.
New or old.
The application process is simple. Post a short review of an
album or song you like. It doesn't have to be super high level
shit but keep it beyond "I like it because the lyrics are DEEP"
Your obligations in the group will be.... Well not a lot. I'd expect
you to post threads and be active but I'm not going to force you.
However if you display lack of interest you will be removed.
Account Requirements:
None. If I like your application you're in regardless of reputation,
post count, account age, or account rank.
Note: We are still letting artists in at all times. If you want to join
based on musical skill (Including sound engineering)
send me a PM with some of your work or post here.
I would like to join this group because I want to get into music and I see that OP has a lot of knowledge within the music and I would like to learn and maybe create few tracks with each other and I promise to be reformed, I would link the tracks I made but it's trash and I wasn't serious it was just for fun
This song has the smoothest freakin instrumental ever. It feels a little blues inspired, it's smooth and mellow, and it just rolls so nice. It's a simple little guitar loop with slight changes every few bars which keeps it interesting. The point of this song isn't too much about the instrumental because they keep it so simple and sometimes it gets repetitive, especially for a song with a 9 minute length. Mark Kozelek has a lot of musical talent which isn't showcased as flashy as it could be. My favorite thing about this song is Mark Kozelek's style really shines as one of his best songs. In this album he's talking about his jet-lagged excursion through Europe. He keeps his songwriting simple, raw, and in the moment. None of this would be as compelling as it is if mark wasn't such a good story teller. His heightened sense of self-awareness crushes the fourth wall separating the audience from the artist. The length of these songs makes mark's stories seem a little ramble-y sometimes, and also can really overpower the music itself. Overall this track really brings you into his world and is an easy and intriguing listen at the same time.
Mac Dre is was a California legend. He grew up in Oakland, California, and started the hyphy movement in the clubs that struct across the nation This song in particular is one of his bests? Why? He explains the whole Bay Area culture to the rest of the nation
For Example
" Then switch it up dance like I'm fishin
See in the bay area we dance a lil different
The bay bounce to thizzle
The west coast wizzle
Do the get stupid come fuck with drizzle
Call the hospital he havin convulsions
No he's gettin stupid and he loaded yo"
Meaning people here dance different, we live differently we are a different type of people. Also Mac Dre has a big influence on the current rap game with Backwoods, and Hennessy. He is one of the forefronts of advertisement to those companies. As stated in this verse "And is the store still open?
We need hen that's a privileged thing
Yadadamean?" Yadadamean = You know what I mean, if you say it fast, Bay Area slang :). Until his death November 1st 2004, he was shot and killed by an unknown suspect after a performance. We celebrate his death day in the Bay Area, to show how much of an influence he had.
The dance he is reffering to in the song is known as the Thizzle Dance
I'm putting some time into this, my submission will be posted tonight. Finally a place for me to share my passion for music on HF! The music SF is so dead... so this is the perfect opportunity.

I chose this song because I really appreciate when artists put their heart and soul into a song. That's when their true talents show. On the track September 16, Russ writes from two different perspectives; his dad's in the first verse, then his mom's in the second. The song tells the story of how his family fell apart, and gives some insight into each of his parents' emotions. To write about your own emotions is one thing, but it shows a lot of skill and effort that he put himself in his parent's shoes and told their sides of the situation.
To me, the real star of the song is the second verse (2:20). I suggest playing the verse and reading along. Whether you like him as an artist or not, anyone who is passionate about music can appreciate this verse:
I love you Jim, the way you grin, the way you make me laugh
The way you helped me raise three angels, wouldn't take it back
I think you're a genius, that's why I be stressing you
CEO, CEO, I expect nothing less from you
That's a compliment, I know that I should show more
Gratitude for you, I know my attitude's been so poor
But so have we but this is deeper than a bank account
I know that I got pent up shit, I know I need to work it out
Russell takes me traveling, he just does our balancing
He knows that you're strong meanwhile he knows that I'm unraveling
He's not taking sides, trust me he says that you're right
He just tryna help us both, he don't wanna see us fight
It rained when we got married and you know I loved the sun
I know I blamed you for things outta your control
But you're the one that I love
Damn, that I love (I'm sorry, I love you)
The rhyming style is pretty simple. Generally speaking, he rhymes two lines in a row, then rhymes the next two, and so on. It's not until the last four lines that the pattern breaks. I don't think the complexity of the rhyming scheme is important in this particular song. He was clearly going for fluidity and he ensured to make the lyrics the star.
Not only did he write a meaningful song, but he produced the beat as well. Russ is known for his ability to create entire songs on his own, which is becoming rare in today's rap scene. This is another quality I found desirable in an artist.
I hope this was in-depth enough. Admittedly, I have no experience with producing or mixing... so my breakdown is rather intermediate in terms of technical skill.
I would like to become a part of this group because aside from being an aspiring tattoo artist, I am also an aspiring hip-hop artist, as well. I have a few skits on SoundCloud from several years ago (I just have not posted anything recently) that you can check out if you'd like to. I understand the differences between AA, AB, BB, ABBA, AABB, etc rhyming styles. I am also starting to create instrumentals on my computer in my spare time. I am regularly active and am sure to be of good use to the community.

Sure.
So about Paradise by Coldplay...
Really like this song... from the start it pulls me in and gives me a happy vibe. Throughout the song it ramps up in intensity with the vocals and it's a really neat song.
Not in depth^, but I produce music on the side, I like dubstep, electronic, edm, and getting into a little house. I listen to music almost 24/7!
