Hey, so I'm bored and I feel like sharing this story. This event has kind of turned my life upside down and I kind of want to talk about it. I'm on pain killers right now so my grammar might not be 100%.
Some context: The day before the event, I went to the beach with a bunch of close friends and also my friend with benefits (she comes up later in the story). We spent the night at the beach, got drunk, sat around the camp fire telling stories, had sex with my fwb later on.. overall just a great time. The only thing that sucked was how cold it was. I forgot my blanket so I had to share my fwb's sleeping bag with her.. didn't get the best sleep haha. The next morning we woke up at about 10 a.m. and it took us about an hour to pack everything up. After we packed up we went and got breakfast, went to a different beach and walked around, then drove back to our home town. The drive was about 45 minutes or so, not too bad. My friend Nick was driving and he dropped my fwb and I back at her house. We immediately took showers and brushed our teeth because we both felt disgusting. The rest of the day until the event consisted of Netflix and chill. I never saw this car crash coming, I was very happy with life at the moment.
This took place on 4-27-19 (about 2 weeks ago on a Saturday) at about 11 p.m. I was going to spend the night at my fwb's house because nobody else was home that night. However, we did want to hangout with our other good friend, for the purpose of this story let's call him John. Now at this point, I've been living with John for about 2 months. He's basically been my best friend for a while and we both thought it would be cool if I lived with him for a bit. Anyway, we call John and he says he'll be over in 10 minutes. My fwb decides to roll a joint real quick, but after she rolls it she says she's not really in the mood to smoke. As a stoner, I happily smoked that joint and was feeling even better now. Little did I know what was coming.
John arrives right on time and we sit around and talk for a bit. We decided on going out for a little joy ride. There was this straight stretch of road close to my fwb's house, so we decided to see what this car could do. We reached the stretch of straight road and probably hit about 130 mph with no problem, but my friend didn't want to go faster. Anyway, we got our adrenaline rushes out of us and decided to go back to the house. However, on the way back, it seemed as if my friend wasn't done with his adrenaline rush. He started going around a turn at 70 mph... lost control... and hit a tree dead on at 70 fucking miles per hour.
2 minutes before this happened, I looked over and saw that my fwb wasn't wearing a seat belt. Instinctively, I simply told her that she should put her seat belt on, and she did even though she was kind of annoyed. I don't like to think about what would of happened if I didn't tell her to do that. Anyway, I was sitting in the back left and my fwb was sitting in the back right. Our seat belts saved our lives. I was conscious the whole time because I didn't hit my head and I remember vividly... a little too vividly I might add... the crash.
As soon as we hit the tree, in that moment, I knew my life was going to be very different for the next month or two. I just didn't know how different. It felt like time just stopped. I checked my legs, they worked. I checked my arms, they worked. "Okay good.. I'm not paralyzed" I thought to myself. I look down at my chest, huge seat belt abrasions. At this point I started to realize what happened. It literally felt like I got hit by a truck, I could barely breath or talk. I watch a show called "I shouldn't be alive" a lot, and I now realized I was in one of those situations... my worst fear. I knew that every second counted, so I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called 911.
Now, John (the driver), was in very good condition. He was talking fine and formulating thoughts very good, so I handed him the phone. He told 911 what happened, and now there's an ambulance on the way. Good, so help is coming at this point. The car was starting to fill up with smoke, so we had to get out. Surprisingly, I was able to walk out, but my fwb was in more pain than me so John helped her out. We're now laying on the road waiting for help. The adrenaline starts to wear off a little bit, and the pain hit me. My vision was blurry and my whole upperbody was just filled with pain. At this point I was convinced I was bleeding internally, so I just looked up at the night sky looking at all the stars waiting to see what death is truly like. I genuinely thought this was it guys, I'll never forget this moment. If you remember, I also smoked that joint earlier and was definitely high as this was happening. I thought I was going to die high haha.
The ambulance came in about 5 minutes or so, but the ride to the nearest hospital was about 25 minutes. The adrenaline was really wearing off at that point, I couldn't move at all. We arrive at the hospital. I just get spammed with pain meds... fentanyl, morphine, hydromorphone (which is strong as fuck), and hydrocodone. I wasn't feeling shit after all of that. It takes a few hours for all of us to get scanned. It turns out I only had 2 broken ribs, both lungs bruised, whiplash, and seat belt abrasions. I was ecstatic to find out how lucky I was. In my head I was sure I broke lots and lots of bones, but I got away with minimal injuries. Now, my fwb had identical injuries except she also had a dislocated collarbone and something with her shoulder. She's a foot shorter than me so I think that's why we had different injuries (seat belt placement I assume). The driver walked out of the hospital that night with only bruised lungs. That airbag really saved his ass, lol.
The next morning, my fwb and I both get transferred to a different hospital. We spent about a week there, drugged out of our minds, laying around doing quite literally nothing. We had our phones, so we talked and stuff (when talking didn't hurt). I watched a shitload of youtube as well. We got prescribed pain meds, and here I am now writing this about 2 weeks later. I am still in a lot of pain, but that's what the meds are for. I have been to a chiropractor and I have another appointment Monday. I will also be going to physical therapy in a week or two. I have been on independent study in school (I'm a senior) getting my work done just fine. So, yeah, that one Saturday night joy ride drastically changed my life for quite a while. I'm not too mad because I learned so much from it, so hopefully I will never be in that situation again. That's my story guys! I hope the grammar wasn't too bad because I'm nodding quite hard right now from this hydrocodone.
If anyone feels like sharing a car crash story then feel free.. I am curious to know what you guys have been through.
