Plunderer - Discussion

Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.

Quote:In a post-apocalyptic world dominated by the so-called "Numbers," each human will have their identity branded with their own "Count," which could define any number related to their life. May it be one's walked distance or amount of compliments given to them by others, this Count could lead them to the abyss when it has dropped to zero.

In the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, Hina has inherited a mission from her Mother, whose Count has depreciated to zero, to search for the Legendary Red Baron. In her adventure, she meets a half-masked swordsman named Licht who tries to hide his identity, as he is known as a degenerate for having an incredibly low Count.

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.

As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.

Since this is the first post, I'll keep my initial comments in a spoiler tag!

What are you guys thinking so far of this anime? I'd rate it a 6 or a 7 at most.
To start off here's a funny picture of a character with a big head.

Plunderer is such a strange anime. It has its ups and its downs. At times it's good and others very random. This is the only anime this season I have not rated. It's really hard to tell what I think of it. I enjoy it to the point that I'd keep watching it, but at the same time, I can see why someone would drop it. Let me explain. There is absolutely no plot. Nothing set in stone. The past few episodes have been a huge roller coaster and we are seven episodes in and nothing special has happened.

The episode starts at a good pace. Licht wakes up to Hina and it's very wholesome. However, Licht is remembering what happened in the last episode when he tried to save Pelmo. It's still unknown to us what the 001 means on his eye. Does this mean he has more than one ballot? We know the first one is the number of girls Licht has made upset. Second, he has the one on his sword that has not changed amounts at all. Possibly, he has a sticker on it like Jail does on his hand hiding the real amount. And then, there is the eye. Like I said, does that mean he has more than one ballot? How does that work? Also, with Hina having a ballot herself, is it active? Does it work for her like Licht's ballot does? Many questions you ask yourself when watching this, but this show is more of a comedy than an actual action anime.

Jail and Lynn have been trying to capture and arrest Licht for the past two episodes. Maybe three. Random things occur that stop them from capturing him. This episode, it was a cooking contest. As you can see, this anime has no plot whatsoever and they are just giving us a wonky story. For an anime with 23 episodes, as I said before, I wouldn't blame you if you dropped this.

Let's talk about the episode itself. Lynn and Hina were very cute in this. They each have their own uniqueness that makes them their own. Hina was pretty much alone for years, trying to find Licht so she has experience in the wild. Hunting, cooking, and fending for herself. So it's not a surprise that she was able to kill a bear and a boar and be able to skin them, find the right cuts of meat, etc. On the other hand, Lynn is what most people are used to. She's just like a housewife, able to go out to the store, buy ingredients and make an awesome dish. Life is right, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Of course, Lynn's meal looked delicious, and Hina's looked disgusting, but apparently, it was good! Both are cute girls and I hope they continue to fight over Licht because it's just pure comedy.

The character art at times can be laughable. They are terrible during certain frames, but you can't help that. The characters are nothing special. I want to learn more about the legendary aces and see what happened to them. I do believe Licht is one of them, but as I said before I'd like to see what happened to the others.

At the end of this episode, Licht, Hina, and Nana escaped. You can see in the distance as they are riding in the cart, the town of Liden had smoke pouring into the sky. Jail heads that way instead of the correct way in which Licht and the gang are traveling. We don't know what happened. I assumed it was one of the legendary aces making a return, but the preview shows a reborn monster. Additionally, Licht and Jail are going to be meeting up next episode. Ah, this anime is a special one. I hope it gets better because this is just getting silly.
It's actually a really good anime I'm update to date with it and I am loving it so far! I wanna see more legendary aces
I love this, been reading the manga and keeps on waiting for chapter 56 or 57

I would love to see more of them too. They look absolutely awesome, even thought we only seen what they look like. I'm sure that if we were able to meet them, they would each have their own unique skillset which would be nice to see!

I would read the manga, but I hate reading. Maybe one day I'll add this to the list. 🙂

I cried when they reveal the backstory, i dont also know if the story is a mediocre but i just enjoy it.
Theres the plot on Episode 8.
Episode 8 is finally the turning point we needed in this anime. As the user, SIM-4463207, mentioned, we are finally getting something to look forward to in episode 9, and hopefully in future episodes too.

The first half of the episode is more laidback and is pretty funny to watch. The relationship between Jail and Licht is pure comedy. I love it. They have that beautiful rivalry you love to see in shounen anime. Also, I love the relationship between Hina and Lyne too they are funny and I think they'll become great friends (they are friends now, but I think in the future they will become greater friends).

Jail and Licht can hold down a drink! I know I'm pretty lightweight (and of course this is an anime so it's not real, duh) but the amount of alcohol they both drank and how strong it was would definitely have me tipsy in the first drink, just like it was for Lyne. The only complaint I have was how easy it was for everyone who drank to instantly snap out of their drunkness. We'll go more into that in the next paragraph.

The mysterious flying demon that Jail was trying to get more information out of Licht finally shows its face in this episode. I was not expecting an attack helicopter at all. In the preview of episode 7, we saw an actual demon so I'm wondering why the directors did that to us. But regardless, we got a line from Licht saying that they destroyed all of these demons back in the war. So, finally, we have proof that Licht is one of the legendary aces and he did fight back in the war. I'm not sure why Jail didn't react to that as much as I did, he was more focused on the demon I suppose.

Looking at the MAL page, they already have Mizuka Sonohara listed down as a character with a picture of her from the manga. She is the one that we saw in the preview, I believe with the gunship. I won't spoil anything about her, but if you read her very short MAL description she's not one to mess with.

I kind of figured it would happen but there is no other option but having Licht and Jail work together. They are currently the two strongest there that can hopefully resolve the situation. Knowing that this anime is going to lead on for episodes and episodes, this fight is probably going to last us the next 4 episodes. If I'm wrong, I'd be really surprised. The least I believe will be 2 episodes.

We shall see. See ya'll next week.

On point review, im also shocked and do some head scratch when i saw those apache (i saw it first on manga)..
It sucks to see this anime have such a low rating. I hope now that the anime is starting to pick up and more drama is occurring, it will at least go up to a seven. This anime has quite a few episodes left since we'll be getting 24 episodes to watch and with what I saw today in episode nine, we for sure are in for a ride. With that being said, this anime can continue to be successful or eventually flop as it did for the first seven episodes.

After reading reviews from other people, I noticed a common trend. As as I said, some people were mentioning that the ratings will go up. Others said that the tension of the anime has changed for the better. I can totally agree with all of this. Additionally, people said there were plenty of plot twists in this episode and they weren't wrong! If you dropped this anime or haven't caught up and are reading my discussion posts, I would advise you to keep watching. One of my close friends told me that he dropped the anime after the second episode. Which is understandable, I wasn't really feeling it at all either. As I mentioned in previous posts there was no actual plot yet until episode eight.

Now, let's discuss the episode. Episode nine was a lot more violent than I was expecting. Before I dive into that, the whole scene with the helicopter bit seemed a bit... how do I say... Not so interesting. At first, it was. The people of that world have never seen an attack helicopter before, of course, they wouldn't, but you'd expect a lot more serious stuff to go down. For the short while that the attack helicopter was even there, nothing much happened. It wasn't until the very of if its lifespan that it started to get interesting. We see Licht acting surprised, as he had seen a ghost. Soon after, the helicopter is shot down from an unknown being. That unknown being was another legendary ace, Sonohara, who remembers all about Licht, as I'm sure they fought together for years in the war. Miss Sonohara is what I guess you can describe as your typical yandere. But at the same time, she's just crazy. Maybe more like Harley Quinn, but more interested in killing than Harley was.

What gets me thinking is where did she come from. Did Licht see her inside the cockpit or did he see her on the other side? Where did she come from? The hatch (I'm not sure what it's called) of the apache did not open so where did she come from? Clearly, she was in the sky, so as I said before, maybe he saw her on the other side of the cockpit.

As I said a little earlier, this episode was more violent than I expected. She happened to kill almost everyone in the town they are in, even Jail. Now, I'm not sure if Jail will have plot armor and survive or he's actually dead, but if he's actually dead they could have done a better job, so my prediction is he isn't dead.

The sicko Sonohara was evil enough to threaten a kid and have him executed. This was a way to get her beloved Licht back to the way she remembered him in the past, a killer just like her.

I mentioned before in older posts that the characters are bland and nothing special. Well, things are getting more interesting and I have to say Licht is becoming more and more of a bad*ss. While that's great, I also still think of him as a mystery. There's so much to learn about each character with the fact that there are 24 episodes. With that being said, we'll definitely be met with other legendary aces too.

Each of them has their own nickname too, which will let us know more about them. Sonohara is the Ace of Pursuit and Licht is the Ace of Flashing Strikes.

With the "demon" being an apache and not an actual demon as we saw in the preview of episode seven, I believe this will be the same for the legendary aces. What do I mean by this? I went back to episode two. In the beginning, it goes over the origins of the legendary aces. As you see in this link, https://i.imgur.com/fTzxOAc.png, they look nothing like Licht or Sonohara. Interestingly enough, to add to what I'm saying, what they are known for (Sonohara equipped with guns) doesn't seem to reflect in the picture.

I'm rambling on and I've forgotten a lot of what I even wanted to discuss so I'll wrap things up.

Licht is awesome now. He's a complete savage. Moving faster than the speed of light eliminating his enemies. Being the "commander", I'm assuming he was the best or at least one of the best legendary aces. And if he has an awesome ability, the other legendary aces do too. We still don't know for sure what his true number is, but we did see Sonohara who had a whopping 32,000!!

Anyways, I hope this anime continues to be great and I hope to see more out of it.
