Hatena Illusion - Discussion

Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.

Quote:Ever since watching a magic show held by him and his wife Maeve, Makoto Shiranui has always admired Mamoru Hoshisato—a world-class magician, as well as friend of his parents—and came to Tokyo to become his apprentice. Kana, nicknamed Hatena, is the couple's daughter and his childhood friend. As the hustle and bustle activities in Tokyo catches Makoto off guard such as burglaries by a beautiful thief, he depends on Hatena's comforting side. When he came to Hoshisato's now-haunted mansion to reunite with his childhood friend, he is greeted by the family's butler and maid, Jeeves and Emma along with Hatena, only to discover that they are not as compatible anymore.

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.

As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.

At times, this anime is a 5 or 6, but I've given it a 7 because it does entertain me at times. I think some characters are cute and funny and occasionally I get a good laugh. However, to those who have not seen it, expect it to be a 5 or 6 out of 10!

What do you guys think so far?
While reading reviews on other forums, I notice there is a common trend. They are mostly criticizing how this anime has a plot, but it's not being followed. Additionally, how bad the anime flows in terms of the art style sometimes. All of this is true. The anime has a rating of 5.62. I'll honestly say that's what this anime deserves. Until the recent episode, episode 8, nothing really special has happened.

I've said it before, but the art style can be weird at times. The animations of the mouths when speaking can be either choppy and lagging, the movements of the characters look terrible, and sometimes I feel the characters are pure CGI with how they are drawn in the anime. CGI isn't a bad thing but in a sense, it might have a feeling of laziness to me.

Anyways, let's talk about the episode. I think this is the first time the anime has stepped away from the plot, created a more filler-style episode, but continued to follow the story. I know this sounds weird and doesn't make sense, but if you watch it, it will.

The episode flowed fairly well. It wasn't too slow like it usually is, and the pace was nice. It was an engaging episode. It didn't have you at the edge of your seat, but it kept you interested in watching it.

I hope now that the anime will start to get better and better. It seems like a good anime that had a bad start, but if they continue to stray from the path that the synopsis and plot are supposed to be, it will flop.

I don't have much to talk about, but it's good to see that Kana and Yumemi want to get stronger. It's interesting to learn that Jeeves himself is an artifact and he is a total bad*ss. I hope they'll be able to prove to Mariah that they should stay in the house. I think it's a little sketchy that she's allowed so much freedom after what she did, but at the same time, I think there is a reasoning behind it that we simply don't know about, which is annoying.

The whole thing with Maeve's family is a mystery to us, and I wish we could learn more about them. Maybe in future episodes, we will, but if we don't that is absolutely dumb.

The anime has potential, and I may lower the rating from seven to a six, but for now I think it's decently reasonable of a rating.
This show keeps getting worse and worse. I have lowered my rating from eight to seven and now I am lowering once again to 6. I will not go below that though. Usually, I keep five and below for anime that I dread watching or dislike.

The animations are awful. The characters faces don't move sometimes when talking, walking animation is awkward and wonky, and in general, the story is all over the place.

The pacing of this anime is terrible. I can see the directors trying to stick with the plot, but the way they are doing it is so bad. I don't think things are rushed, but random things happen throughout the episode that just doesn't make sense.

We are almost done with the anime and Makoto, Yumemi and Kana have barely improved their skills at all. The anime makes us think they have with their little training exercises but I don't like the way they are doing it. The training exercises show all three of them getting their butts kicked or being reckless, and then all of a sudden they get scolded, told what they did wrong, and immediately they are stronger. I understand for some that's a way of learning, but the way it's presented in this anime just doesn't make sense.

I'll continue to watch this because it's slightly interesting but I don't have high hopes for this as much as I did when I first started watching. It's a shame because I like Kana's voice actress (she isn't the best but she's improving) and I like Makoto's voice actor, Matsuoka, who is best known for Kirito from SAO, and has been appearing in various anime lately but they are just doing them dirty with this anime.
Hatena Illusion was sadly the worst anime I've seen this season. The animations were horrible, the voice acting wasn't too great, and the story was all over the place. I am going to give this anime a final rating of four.

It amuses me to see multiple people give this anime a one on the rating scale. I am not arguing against that, it's not wrong at all.

Let's start with the final episode, episode 11. Up until that episode, we were unsure about how many episodes this anime would even have. With that being said, when I started watching this anime, I didn't expect the ending to be what it was.

At the end of episode 11, we get a huge cliffhanger. The cliffhanger is that we should expect to see it in episode 12. Well, what are the producers doing for this anime? Instead of episode 12, they are making it an OVA or a special episode instead which is stupid.

With whatever they were trying to do with this stupid idea, it failed. It just made the anime worse than it already is.

I am sad to give this anime such a negative review. I was looking forward to enjoying this anime, but after you get into it the story is so boring. Additionally, I felt like I was watching a kid show. I felt like I was a twelve-year-old watching this anime.

Would I recommend this anime? Heck no. Don't even bother watching this, you'll find yourself wishing you never started it/
