New monitor no signal

Just got a new monitor, and it only has HDMI ports. The VGA and HDMI ports on my PC are NOT on my graphics card. My old monitor was connected directly to the graphics card. I tried two monitors both going to the HDMI and VGA ports and there is no signal. Is there a way around this?

It helps a lot if you can post your entire setup, can you hear audible beeps after turning on the computer ? because a no signal (or black screen) can occur because of multiple reasons, including but not limited to, faulty ram, or a misconfiguration in the bios

What ports are on your graphics card? You need to plug in to the graphics card otherwise it won't be used as intended.
I assume by the fact that your GPU doesn't have a HDMI or VGA port (probably DVI?) that it is a rather old one. You could try getting a HDMI to DVI adapter, otherwise I think a new GPU would be the solution, but the adapter is definitely a cheaper one.

Yeah it's DVI. I'm pretty sure it's the monitor since the power light didn't turn on on it. I came back home after i posted this thread and the light was back on and it started working fine. Was playing a game of counterstrike earlier and it stopped working again. Playing CS when it happened the first time as well.

The VGA and HDMI ports are onboard, i was just going to use them for another monitor but they don't seem to work. Pretty sure it has to be plugged into my graphics card.
