New Section Suggestion

What if a "What's new?" section was added? I personally am not on here as often as I wish I could. Once a week someone (user, writer, staff, etc) could do a week recap. I think it would be a good way to keep people in the "now". If you are off for a couple weeks or even months, you can get a good recap and feel like you have not missed a beat.

The difference between this and the news section is the fact that this is more focused on site changes. The news which is not very active, focuses on everything. This would be a quick recap which could be taken many different directions. For example just doing a recap of site changes, or even recapping big events, but still only site based ones, nothing off site related.

Here are a few examples from what one week could like, to the next, as well as me mixing up content involved. All of the quick updates can be hyperlinked if there is a bigger story / more info involved that is tied to a direct thread.

1/10/2021 What's New? (strictly site news)
-Omni implied a new discord server rule
-A bustabyte API is expected to be under one month away
-There has been attempted phishing attempts happening via "xxxxx"
-The price of lottery tickets has increased when spending bytes but has stayed the same for crypto purchases

1/17/2021 What's new? (strictly site news)
-Omni is now allowing old accounts to appeal being closed due to no activity
-All purchases of 5 awards or more now result in 15% off the entire purchase
-The bustabyte API has been delayed until further notice

1/24/2021 What's new? (site news + user news)
-Omni will now require 50 B ratings to post a new thread in currency exchange
-A new purchase option user group called "t3st3rs' is now live
-The user "someone well known if this occurs" has been banned this past week. No official reason was released to his trustscan.
-There has been some rule changes to secondary market place

Omniscient could also sell one ad per week inside the what's new update at the bottom of it costing whatever he choses if someone is trying to get a message out. Honestly, it's nice to be able to stay in the loop on things when you cannot be as active. Maybe sub weekly or monthly is better. I would like weekly, but overall any route would be nice.
How about a continuous updated bulletin or logs thread for every site update posted monthly?

I like that, but I like a little context ahead of time or it to be hyperlinked with it titled that way you aren't just having to click around, some updates won't interest everyone. I stand by a "What's new" section being a good add-on for the site.
Once a week I look at Omni's new threads. Generally keeps me safe from violations and up to date on new site features. Doesn't hurt to check Xero's profile too.
Is HF News done?

That’s sort of why I said this. But also, at time there’s a lot of reading to do there. I guess I just like the quick list.

But seemed that way when I was browsing, HF News being dead.

Eh, I wouldn't trust the HF News to include pertinent information. I think they do a good job of touching on what they consider to be notable threads for the week, but what they consider to be notable vs what someone else considers notable can be pretty different. The only 'foolproof' method that I use to stay in good standing is to check your and Xero's threads about once a week to see if anything new has been introduced to the forum. Sometimes even check your posts to ensure you haven't come up with new policy as a response to another user's thread.

If HF News maintained a sort of 'site and policy change log' that I was confident actually included all of the changes (and not just what the author found notable), then I'd be more inclined to use/read it.

I suggested that above a change log or bulletin for people to view.

Someone just needs to make it... the thread, and keep it updated... like Vitani.

Looking at that thread.... Maybe that's why this doesn't exist. What an overwhelming amount of information.

Starting to like OP's suggestion a bit more now. Weekly posts in a subforum dedicated to site and policy updates would be beneficial and delivered in a manner that isn't overwhelming.

Problem becomes finding somebody reliable who wants to maintain it, as that's a lot of writing that I'm sure Omni is eager to throw on his own plate /s

Guess the simple answer is just ask the news team to include all site/policy updates in their publications rather than picking out highlights.

I agree with this. I stopped updating the thread because I figured there was just not enough benefit to it.

Maybe a simple change log like sub-section in RANF solely dedicated to a weekly/monthly update thread with information on anything that was changed/updated/added with links to release threads where necessary.

I wouldn't mind taking care of this myself and making sure it stays up-to-date.

I'm 100% down to make a thread like this.
My concern is that I might miss new updates, unless people notify me.
I will be as dedicated as I am to the daily check in.

Will check with my groups and they might be down to support this.

I wonder what's better, to update OP or keep posting comments every new update and closing the thread (Maybe keep it sticky?).

Anyways will think of some ways to do it.

I like the idea, but the HF News is more ideal to me.

If something like this were to be implemented, a locked and stickied thread with rolling updates would probably be the best implementation IMO.
