TON Wallet goes live for Telegram users in the US

TON Wallet goes live for Telegram users in the US
Self-custody, on your phone, finally makes sense

Telegram Finally Flips the Switch

So this actually happened: Telegram users in the US can now use TON Wallet. Just... like, right in the app.

No sketchy browser extensions. No juggling 12 wallets and hoping MetaMask connects. No sending coins to the wrong network because the UI was designed by a sleep-deprived wizard.

Now it's just... open chat, send crypto.

It’s kind of wild that this took so long, honestly. Telegram’s been circling crypto forever, but the US rollout always felt like one of those “someday” things. Regulatory headaches, SEC side-eyes, the usual.

But here we are. Quiet rollout. Very Telegram of them.

Self-Custody Where It Belongs

This isn't some half-baked integration either. It's a self-custodial wallet.

Which is big, because it means you hold the keys. Not Telegram, not some weird custodian, not even a third-party browser wallet pretending to be secure while draining your funds via a fake signature pop-up.

You own it. Your keys, your coins.

That's probably the single most important shift here. We’re not talking about Venmo vibes. This is closer to a crypto-native experience, just sneakily disguised as something dead simple. Like sending a meme, but it's USDT.

(And yes, you can send USDT now. Also Toncoin and NFTs. Which... not everyone will use, but it’s cool that they’re there.)

DeFi Inside Telegram? Kind Of

Here’s where it starts to get more interesting.

They’ve added built-in DeFi tools, trading via Omniston, Ston.fi, staking through third parties. You can even buy USDT with 0% fees if you use MoonPay and Apple/Google Pay.

It’s not full-on Uniswap levels of complexity (thank god), but it does feel like the beginning of a more accessible DeFi layer. One where you don’t need a hardware wallet and a YouTube tutorial just to buy a memecoin.

And that off-ramp feature? That’s no joke. Withdraw crypto straight to your card. No more praying that your centralized exchange doesn’t lock your funds during a “routine security review.”

You can actually use your crypto now, not just hoard it.

Mini Apps and the Bigger Picture

Here’s where Telegram plays its hand.

TON Wallet isn’t just for sending coins. It’s the backbone of their bigger plan, the one with Mini Apps. Games, payments, digital tools that live inside Telegram. All interacting with your wallet, securely, natively.

Think bots, but way more powerful. Like if Shopify and Discord had a baby... then added crypto rails and embedded it in chat.

Feels like the beginning of a proper app ecosystem. Not some Web3 pipe dream with 17 wallet popups and “Connect Twitter to claim your NFT.” Just something normal people might actually use.

Scams, Shills & Safeguards

Of course, with anything crypto, the red flags fly early.

Telegram isn’t exactly known for its pristine reputation when it comes to scammers. If you’ve been here long enough, you’ve seen the fake bots, the sketchy airdrops, the endless “Sir, partnership please” DMs.

So they’re adding safeguards: whitelists, blacklists, fraud detection, transaction emulation. Tools to help people not get rekt.

It won’t fix everything. But it’s something.

Still, if your aunt asks whether she should try it... maybe tell her to wait a few weeks.

Why Now? Why the US?

It’s not random that the US is getting this now. Telegram’s got something like 87 million users there. And with over 100 million wallets already activated globally, it makes sense they’d double down on the American market.

Also: they just raised $28.5 million. At a $1 billion valuation.

That money’s not for memes.

They’re building a whole platform here. Not just a wallet, not just payments. A real shot at onboarding millions into crypto, without them even realizing it.

Which is kind of genius. Because no one wants a crypto wallet. They just want to send money, or play a game, or buy something cool. And now they can. Inside an app they already use.

This isn’t perfect. It never is.

Maybe Telegram gets hit with some regulation again. Maybe the UI is clunky. Maybe no one actually uses the DeFi stuff and it all gets quietly sunset in six months.

But... maybe not.

Maybe this is the first time self-custody feels normal. Quiet. Boring even.

And that would be a pretty big deal.

Let me know what you think. Anyone tried it yet?

Have not used TON at all yet. Not sure it has enough support for me to care.

AI Quote: On the TON blockchain, there are several wrapped assets—tokens that represent another crypto asset (like BTC, ETH, or USD Tether) brought onto TON via cross-chain bridges. Here's a breakdown:

🔗 Wrapped TON & Native TON

wTON (Wrapped TON)

ETH-compatible version of TON, enabling use in Ethereum-style DeFi. Minted via the TON–Ethereum bridge at a 1:1 ratio with TON ([Gemini][1]).
Current price is around \$3.3 ([CoinGecko][2]).

🌐 Other Wrapped Tokens on TON

These top bridged/wrapped tokens (by market cap/activity) operate on TON via interoperability bridges ([TON][3]):

1. Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) – BTC wrapped for use on TON via cross-chain integration.
2. Wrapped Ether (WETH) – Similarly, ETH bridged over and wrapped for TON.
3. TON‑Bridged USDT (JUSDT) – Tether USD stablecoin bridged to TON.
4. RabtBitcoin (RBTC) – Likely a TON-wrapped BTC variant.
5. bemo staked TON (stTON) – A liquid-staked TON wrapper.
6. Toncoin (TON) – Native, but technical ecosystems consider it similar to wtokens.
7. Baby Doge Coin (BabyDoge) – A meme token bridged into TON.
8. Notcoin (NOT) – Another bridged token active in TON DeFi.
9. GoMining (GOMINING) – Utility token bridged from another chain.
10. MVL (MVL) – A cross-chain asset in TON ecosystem.

*(Note: these come from Ton-network ecosystem data and token rankings by market cap) ([Bitget][4])

📊 Summary of Top 10 Bridged/Wrapped Tokens on TON

| # | Wrapped Token | Underlying Asset / Use Case |
| -- | ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| 1 | Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) | Bitcoin |
| 2 | Wrapped Ether (WETH) | Ethereum |
| 3 | TON‑Bridged USDT | Tether USD Stablecoin |
| 4 | RabBitcoin (RBTC) | Alternative BTC wrapper |
| 5 | bemo staked TON (stTON) | Staked TON liquid-token |
| 6 | Toncoin (TON) | Native, but often considered as wrapped |
| 7 | Baby Doge Coin | Meme token bridged to TON |
| 8 | Notcoin (NOT) | Bridged token with TON ecosystem presence |
| 9 | GoMining (GOMINING) | Bridged utility token |
| 10 | MVL | Cross-chain asset on TON |

✅ TL;DR

wTON is TON's main wrapped token (wrapped version of itself, used across ETH-style DeFi).
WBTC, WETH, USDT, and various others (like meme or staking tokens) are bridged and wrapped on TON.
* The top 10 include major assets like WBTC, WETH, ton-bridged USDT, stTON, and others like BabyDoge, Notcoin, and MVL, based on TON ecosystem market data ([Bitget][4], [TON][3], [calypso.finance][5], [Gemini][1]).

Need specifics on any of these tokens—like how to acquire, wallet compatibilities (e.g., Tonkeeper, Telegram Wallet), or bridge instructions? Just let me know!
