"Cisco Systems will cut nearly 4,000 jobs — representing less than 5% of its workforce — in a broad restructuring aimed at sharpening its focus on artificial intelligence and other high-growth areas, the company said Wednesday."

I found this quite interesting. Cisco is claiming that the job cuts are a result of the company's desire to restructure and apply new focus to AI related development as well as a few other sectors. I can't help but wonder though, how truthful is that? Anyone with a brain can see that AI is a very big deal and is likely to replace thousands upon thousands of job/career types around the globe. What are your thoughts?

Sometimes I speculate the possibility of governments one day regulating AI automation in the workplace if it gets too bad. I'm all for A.I. in the appropriate settings/usages but it is downright terrifying at the same time. Even in the early stages (if one could still consider it as such) that we're witnessing today, it's incredibly obvious how powerful A.I. will inevitably become as the development continues.

That's true. Just BE, A.I.
Really though, I know it's going to consume some level of the job market, but I'd like to see A.I. run 220 amp service to my breaker panel, haha.

My feelings on AI are that once the people who helped make it start warning you about it, you should probably be worried lol.
AI will take over likely millions of jobs in the future, it really comes down to corporate greed too.
In the short term the cost of going for AI alternatives will be a lot, in the long term it will likely be far cheaper than paying for human workers.
I doubt the government will truly step in to protect workers and as a result the only solution in the future is some form of universal basic income.
When even prominent AI researchers like Geoffrey Hinton warn that AI could replace most (if not ALL) jobs, it's hard to see Cisco's AI-focused restructuring as just PR.
As a programmer, I'm not exactly cheering.

I'm right there with you. I do not at all believe that they aren't replacing most of these jobs with AI technology.

Meta is going the same route currently it seems. They're laying off 8,000 employees (10% of their overall workforce) amidst the company moving towards a more A.I. focused business model.
