Mind Control Allows Man to Walk
A 29-year-old man, paralyzed from the waist down for over five years, took his first steps since the other day. Surgeons in Minnesota implanted a "remote-controlled electrode" in the back of the patient. This electrode works to stimulate those few neurons left in his spinal cord. Not only was the patient able to walk again; he walked for over a hundred meters. Dr. Kendall Lee elaborated on the significance of their successful surgery; “The reason why this is important is because the patient's own mind, thought, was able to drive movement in his legs. Just as important is that we were able to get him to stand independently and take his own steps.” While further testing needs to be done, they hope to branch out with this procedure as early as possible. >>Source

Tokyo Based Team Blows the Doors off
A research team in Tokyo stumbled onto the most powerful magnetic field ever created by man. In fact, it was so powerful that it supposedly blew the doors off their laboratory. The team were projecting to see a field at around 700 Teslas, they were then in for a bit of a shock when the resulting field came in at 1200 Teslas. The team is already at work constructing a more secure enclosure for further experiments. Their research will hopefully pave the way toward alternative energy sources and further information on how certain objects interact with fields such as this. >>Source

British teenage girls are among the heaviest drinkers in Europe – and have overtaken boys
In newly released data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Behavior in School-Aged Children (HBSC), female British adolescents ranked England sixth for binge drinking out of the top 36 European countries, where Denmark leads. Along with this, teenage girls are now more likely to have been drunk at least twice when compared to boys. Overall, the study shows that drinking habits have fallen, though teenage girls in the United Kingdom remain on the list of heaviest drinkers. The study was developed and overseen by the University of St Andrews and reported that the fraction of UK girls has more than halved over the 12-year period from 2002 to 2014, they remain among the heaviest drinkers. >>Source

Canada slips to 55th place in global freedom-of-information law rankings
“Canada has slipped six places to 55th spot on an annual list of global freedom-of-information rankings, and is now tied with Bulgaria and Uruguay.” The rating system used was launched in 2011, and it uses a “150-point scale to indicate the strengths and weaknesses of freedom-of-information laws around the world.” Canada recently dropped down after being “leapfrogged” by other nations introducing more satisfactory and friendly laws, in regard to freedom-of-information. Afghanistan for instance recently implemented an ‘incredibly strong’ law that provides the country with tools to ensure citizens are able to access information provided by public authorities. The compilers of this ranking say they hope this serves as a wake-up call to Canada that inspires them to “improve the federal Access to Information Act, which hasn't been significantly updated since its inception in 1983.” >>Source
