The Hidden Cost of Parenting
Many of us are getting to be around that age where one would usually consider starting a family; this article details one of the many hazards associated with it. A study published in the journal Sleep found that new parents were missing out on an average of six years of sleep with the average loss being higher in the mothers. This study followed two thousand new German parents. According to Dr. Sakari Lemola “We didn’t expect to find that, but we believe that there are certainly many changes in the responsibilities you have,” This does begin to make the prolonged loss of sleep a little more palatable. >>Source
Yeast Producing Cannabis Takes Root
Yes, you have read correctly, the minds at UC Berkley have engineered a fungus that produces the main ingredients of cannabis. Now, dear reader, you may be wondering why anyone would even want an enzyme that produces THC and CBD. It is rather simple; actually, this yeast could significantly cut costs in delivering the two agents. Jay Keasling, a UC Berkeley professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering and bioengineering and a faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, had this to say about the process; “For the consumer, the benefits are high-quality, low-cost CBD and THC: you get exactly what you want from the yeast. It is a safer, more environmentally friendly way to produce cannabinoids.” Should you be chemically inclined, the source article goes into much greater detail about how exactly they managed to pull this off. >>Source

China uses "social credit" to ban millions of Chinese citizens from transportation
In 2018, it was stated that 23 million people were banned from buying plane or train tickets at some point in the year because of their "social credit" scores being too low. Becoming worryingly like the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive", people who were considered "discredited" for their behavioural crimes were punished with a low social score which consequently blocked all access to public transport and flights. As well as this blacklisting of transport, the Chinese government also employs a public blacklist of those who have been found guilty of crimes in a court of law. This blacklist may affect a civilian's chance to obtain a job in China. Social credit scores were originally introduced to help prevent antisocial behaviour on public transport as well as a national governmental score which is lowered if you evade taxes, scam people or do other uncivil acts. By 2020, China is aiming to have a file on every single Chinese citizen that includes all data about that person. Many people from activist groups are calling to put a stop to the social credit system, calling it a "breach of human rights".activism groups are calling to put a stop to the social credit system, calling it a "breach of human rights". >>Source

TOPIC:What game or tech-related product drop are you most excited for in 2019?
"Game? The new Anon, for sure. Tech though... Samsung's releasing a wicked cool monitor that clamps to your desk, and can be set to sit flush to your wall when it's not being used. It probably won't work in my triple-monitor setup, but I'll probably look to get one for my wife, who uses more of her desk for research and paperwork anyways. Also, Royole is supposed to be releasing their flexible keyboard, which I really want to get my hands on!"
