Graphics Processor

Laptop not using the hardware GPU?

Hi, this is the first time I ever had a laptop with an actual GPU in it.
The GPU is a GTX 1660ti, and the CPU is a Ryzen 7 4800H which also has integrated graphics.

It seems that the laptop is using both of them, is that intentional? I'd rather have the CPU do CPU-stuff and the GPU do GPU-stuff if you know what I mean.
I tried going to the device manager and turned off the Radeon Integrated Graphics and the only thing that happened was my 2nd monitor stopped working and the resolution/scaling became terrible, which makes me think the 1660ti isn't even the main graphics processor?
I get good fps when playing games but when monitoring the GPU usages I see that the GTX 1660ti is running on 40% and the temperature is very low, while also the AMD Radeon Graphics is running on about 24% and the CPU temperature + fan is doing much more work than the GPU.

Does anyone have a clue on how this works?

Other things I have tried:
-Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling turned ON.
-NVIDIA Control Panel > Preferred graphics processor = High-performance NVIDIA processor.
-Power saving mode OFF.
-Latest GPU drivers installed.

That is intentional. Your displays are connected to the iGPU, but your games are utilizing the dGPU.

I see.
I don’t really like that as it increases the load and temperature on the CPU more than necessary, instead of just putting more on the GPU which isn’t doing a whole lot and sitting on a low temperature.
Why would they do that… oh well thanks for the reply!

Also, one more question:

Should I be installing graphic drivers for both AMD and Nvidia?

You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a laptop with a dGPU that doesn't work like that.
It's very likely not making that big of a difference to your gaming experience.
I would think it's the safest bet to install both AMD and Nvidia drivers, especially the AMD ones since you'll be getting chipset and other AMD related updates as well, I believe.

Start a game.
Start Task manager.
Go to 'Performance' tab.
And see if there is any GPU activity.

Okay, it took me some trial and error. Had a hard time figuring out how laptops work (as stupid as that may sound).
When playing OSRS with a plugin that enables the game being run with the GPU, it seems that the laptop prefer using the CPU instead which it should but only if the GPU-mode is off. I am yet to fix this...

I tried installing a "real" game and Skyrim runs smooth, and the 1660ti is doing nearly all the work.
So it seems all is good, and I got fooled by OSRS not working properly.

osrs is definitely not fully optimized. That game heavily depends on your CPU

It could have been a faulty configuration with the not 'real' game.

But as if I understand it correctly, you got it working again?

Yes thank you, besides osrs (runelite) using the iCPU.
