Can my 5 year old motherboard bottleneck my PC?

Current PC Specs:
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
  • RAM: 32GB Corsair 3200MHz
  • GPU: GTX 1070 Ti
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 AORUS Gaming 7 WiFi

I was wondering if my motherboard could be bottlenecking my system’s performance. I currently have a GTX 1070 Ti, but I’m thinking about upgrading to the new RTX 5060 since it’s within my budget and offers a solid performance boost.

The system was a prebuilt I bought around 5–6 years ago, and I’ve never updated the BIOS or changed much since then. Before I spend money on the new GPU, I just want to make sure my setup can handle it without issues.

Your motherboard is in no way impacting your performance. It has full support for your existing hardware and there are no bottlenecks here.

If you upgrade the GPU, your missing SSD, CPU and RAM will both be bottlenecks.
Well it will depend on the resolution you are playing. The Ryzen 7 2700X will bottleneck the 5060 at lower resolutions such as 1080p. Even at 1440p the bottleneck will be less pronounced but still present.

It really depends on the performance and frame rates you want to chase.
Upgrading your RAM can help you , might have to run your games at lower settings. Yes, it’s frustrating to reduce graphics and shadows, but it will boost your performance (FPS). I saw someone mention an SSD. I recommend going for 1TB or higher NVMe instead great advice however NVME ( IS FASTER) for a Gaming Stye Setup instead and going into your AMD settings and configuring your gaming to Boost performance.

I was going to suggest this but yeah, I second webdev
The motherboard is the absolute last possible candidate for a bottleneck lol.

100% true, it's rare to see a motherboard bottleneck your performance. That's usually from RAM/CPU/GPU.
