Consider Nature
By Natas
This isn't a preachy blog about how you need to go out and hug trees, how you should turn vegan, or how you should use less aerosols etc. This is a blog about incorporating lessons from nature into your everyday life to benefit yourself and how you work.
Take the humble lizard as an example. When they come across something they don't immediately understand, or something they can't comprehend by looking at it, they tilt their head to give themselves a different view and perspective of things. That simple movements allows them to reevaluate what they see, and to formulate a quick plan on how to tackle what's in front of them. But what has that got to do with us? Well, you can learn from the lizard in how you approach problems or obstacles in life. Take a moment to adjust your position, to adjust your view of something, and formulate a different plan. Say you're presented with a complaint from a customer but you don't understand why they're upset; tilt your metaphorical head, view things from their angle, and approach the situation with a new perspective.
Or, consider the weeds that grow in your driveways and annoy you when gardening or admiring your land. They annoy you because they just don't give up, they don't stop growing and always find a new way to root down and shoot up. What can we learn from this? Well, the weed needs only moisture and light to survive, it's a basic plant, but it doesn't give up as easily as other plants because it has real desire to live. You can stamp on a weed, you can cut it down, and you can even poison it, but time and time again that weed will find a new way back up or just power through the punishments. That's something we can do in life and in business. We get blocked, we find a new way in. We get cut down verbally, we find a way to learn from it and grow. We get poisoned by doubt and fear, but we find a new way to fight back and continue.
But, for me, the best example is water itself. Water is the life blood of everything, it feeds us, the animals and the plants, and both us and the planet are mostly water as a whole. Water can be soft and refreshing, but it can also be a powerful force. If you observe where lakes and rivers have run for long periods of time, you can see where water has cut through rocks to forge its own path, and even where water has physically moved and relocated lives because it follows its own basic laws. This is something we should all strive to be like. Where water cuts rocks through persistence and constant force, we can cut through our obstacles, through our lives, and reshape the world around us. We can provide our own power to people by moving to our own flow, and showing people how we won't be stopped from reaching our desired point, inspiring them along the way. If you follow that basic philosophy, you can absolutely bulldoze your way through things that would otherwise slow you down or stop you.
We can take great inspiration by the basic laws and examples of nature, as there are many, many examples you can view on a daily basis just by walking around your neighborhood. Just take a moment to observe the world around you, see how it continues to exist despite all that goes on, and realize that you can act more natural, and take your successes to another level.
