Server Move By Omniscient
On Thursday last week, Omniscient announced the start of the HF backend upgrade had started. With this update, the server will be moved over to allow modern development and improvements. For those who are interested in the specs and more, this thread would be worth a read as it will give you all a little bit of an insight into what the process is going to be and how much work is being done for the changes coming this year. Within the replies of the thread there have also been a few updates on the progress of what has been started so far while everything is being set up.
Happy Valentine's Day By Omniscient
The 14th was Valentine's Day this year already and this year, with the time of love Omniscient has changed the banner of the site and background. Some of you who are reading this right now may be seeing it as you read this. But on the special day, the award "Heart of HF" went on sale for the weekend from $200 to just $50. With this special offer, everyone is encouraged to gift the award to anyone you love on HF.
Bump Limitations By Omniscient
Bumps on threads are in the news once again this week due to the predicted abuse that could happen on the marketplace side of the forum. Due to the bumps being abused, the function has now been altered again to only allow members to bump marketplace threads every six hours. These bumps might still feature a change again in the future, but right now six hours seems to be the right amount of time.
API App Award Goal By Omniscient
Omniscient has asked the community to see what the award for "API Dev" should be used for and if they should just add it to anyone who is using the API with a selection of members using the API. With this it would mean the award would be added as an award goal instead of being given out to those who make use of the API. Go and share your idea's on the thread and maybe even let us know what project you could push out with the API?
Stanley Runs HF By Omniscient
This thread seems to be something that is maybe a future for the site, or maybe it could be something we would never want. The thread is talking about how an AI agent could pretty much take over Omniscient role as the admin of the site and pretty much run everything moving forward. This would mean an AI would be in charge of HF and anything could happen.
The Hack Forums Wiki Returns By Mix
The Hack Forums Wiki has returned. The site has been under some work recently as the site was sadly left with a load of issues and no one was running the official site. Thanks to everyone within the HF news team, the site is now under new leadership and, thanks to Omniscient allowing the team to start their work on this while maintaining the HF news, the site is back getting some lovely changes and getting updated daily to bring it back to a new modern day Wikipedia with a load of information for everyone to read up on.

▸ OpenAI Tools Help You Find Friends with New Contact Sync Feature
by JoseMar
A sharp breakdown of OpenAI's newly added "Contact Data" section in their privacy policy. The thread highlights how users will be able to optionally sync their phone contacts, with numbers being hashed and compared against existing OpenAI accounts to suggest connections. It also raises the more important question: how long are those hashed numbers retained?
While the feature promises convenience, the discussion quickly pivots to privacy implications, storage transparency, and whether "optional" always means harmless. Some members see it as useful social integration, others view it as the beginning of deeper data aggregation. A timely thread that blends tech awareness with healthy skepticism.
▸ AI, ethics, and how tech can still be on our side
by Oh_Well
A thoughtful and grounded take on what hacktivism should evolve into in the age of AI. Instead of glorifying chaos or surface-level disruption, this post argues for capability-building: verification pipelines, digital hygiene education, responsible disclosure, anti-scam community defense, and local-first AI setups.
The core message is simple: "less spectacle, more infrastructure." Ethics isn't framed as weakness, but as operational discipline that prevents collateral damage and long-term blowback. The thread proposes frameworks for evaluating actions and even outlines actionable project ideas communities could realistically build.
▸ Appreciation Thread
by Mix
A wholesome community moment. Mix received the "Bytes Bag" award unexpectedly from Josh Allen and took the time to publicly express gratitude. The thread highlights the collaborative spirit behind the HF News and Wiki teams and reinforces something often overlooked: recognition matters.
What stands out is the humility - emphasizing shared contribution, not entitlement. A reminder that behind the usernames and bytes, community culture is built on appreciation.
▸ How has your life progressed since joining HF?
by vrysleepy
A nostalgic yet insightful reflection aimed at long-time members. From teenage RuneScape gold hustles and Minecraft reselling to working in the music industry with 3x Platinum RIAA credentials, vrysleepy shares how early "internet kid" experiments on HF shaped an entrepreneurial mindset that never led to a traditional 9–5.
The thread opens the door for others to reflect on their own growth - from skidding tools to running businesses, building families, or carving out digital careers. It's a reminder that for many, HF wasn't just a forum - it was a training ground.
▸ GPT's Output Of "My Behavior"
by Omniscient
A fascinating experiment sparked by a job interview question: "Based on my past conversations, can you analyze my behavioral tendencies?" The result was a highly structured personality breakdown - systems-oriented, risk-aware, optimization-driven - almost flattering in tone.
The thread quickly evolved into a broader discussion about AI-generated personality analysis, the Barnum effect, exaggeration bias, and whether GPT assessments are insightful or just polished horoscopes for technical minds. Some found it impressive, others called it "high dosage of ass kissing."
An entertaining yet surprisingly philosophical look at how AI reflects its users.

The "Second Brain": Why Your Gut Has a Mind of Its Own
We’ve all felt "butterflies" in our stomach, but science now confirms that sensation isn't just in your head. Your digestive tract is home to the Enteric Nervous System (ENS)—a complex network of 100 million neurons so sophisticated it’s earned the nickname: The Second Brain.
Key Insights into the ENS
Total Independence: Unlike other organs, your gut can "think" for itself, managing digestion and enzyme release without a single command from your skull.
The Serotonin Factory: About 95% of your body's serotonin—the "feel-good" hormone—is produced in the gut, not the brain.
Two-Way Traffic: The Vagus Nerve acts as a biological superhighway. Remarkably, 90% of the signals travel up from the gut to the brain, meaning your stomach often tells your mind how to feel.
The Gut-Brain Connection
This link explains why "gut feelings" are so visceral. When you're stressed, your brain sends signals that can disrupt digestion; conversely, an inflamed gut can send signals to the brain that trigger anxiety or "brain fog."
Advice of the week
Cut all screens 60 minutes before bed. Blue light blocks melatonin, delaying deep sleep. Swap your phone for a book to lower stress, fall asleep faster, and wake up sharper. Your brain needs an offline "wind-down" to recharge.
Quote of the week
"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind." — Caroline Myss
