Original Glue owes its frosty appearance and distinct effects to extensive backcrossing. However, it wasn't until several failed attempts and numerous subpar phenotypes that the GG4 we know today emerged. Back in 2009, a breeder called Josey Whales met up with two other growers, and they exchanged several elite clones so they could start experimenting.
Armed with Sour Dubb, Chem's Sister, and Chocolate Diesel, Joesy would start a long but ultimately fruitless process, as his entire crop ended up being destroyed. Fortunately, Josey gave away several unwanted seeds from the failed project to a friend who kept hold of them. Sometime later, the two tried growing again, this time using the seeds Joesy had initially discarded.
Finally, the venture was successful, giving rise to three useable females—GG1, GG2, and GG4. While GG1 and GG2 seeds remain elusive and closely guarded by the GG Strains team, GG4 was deemed the most viable for commercial release. From that moment, the interest in GG4 skyrocketed, and growers all over the US began paying excessive sums to get their hands on genuine clones. Fortunately, seed banks have since developed feminized seed versions, bringing the power of the Gorilla Glue line to grow tents worldwide.
