How To: Keep Your Health Bar Up

Ever wondered what your health bar looks like at any given moment? You don't have to be a hardcore gamer, or even a passive gamer, to understand the concept, but we're talking about the health bars on game characters that indicate how healthy, how alive, or how effective they are. When things attack them, make them sick, or get in their way, the bar will drop and the character tends to respond accordingly. If the health bar is completely depleted, then it's typically a game over situation.
Sometimes, I think about what my health bar looks like. I'm relatively healthy in terms of my day to day life, but I can get lazy and I can get sick thanks to underlying issues, and it makes me think about it. What if every morning we wake up with a full health bar, and with the actions we choose we can make it stay full or bring it down? What if we could visualise how every negative action has a negative effect on our health bar? That would make us much more motivated to stay healthy and stay alive, right? But what about those with very serious underlying conditions, who don't wake up feeling 100%? Well, they have their own health bar, relative to their own circumstances, and while they may feel unable to bring it up to the same level as others, they can follow the same principles as I'm about to discuss, to prolong their life and happiness.
So imagine you wake up at 100%, but as soon as you get up it every so slowly starts to decrease with the natural progression of the day. A morning run, for your health and for your energy, could boost your bar and keep it high. A cold shower could help awaken your senses somewhat. Having a healthy breakfast of a reasonable size could prevent hunger and bad food decision making later in the day. Choosing to smile and be friendly with people instead of having a negative outlook on things could keep you cheerful and energetic, while your mind isn't focused on finding things to distract and complain about. Choosing to take regular breaks so you don't get strains on your various body parts could mean that you get more restful sleep at night. You are in total control of these things, and they can help that health bar stay high.
But do we consider the opposite?
Every cup of coffee which ups our caffeine level; what if that's putting strain on our heart, and bringing the health bar down? That second hand smoke we get when we stand outside the office screwing up our lungs, the car fumes from the streets doing the same, the sugary food we decide to consume making us fatter, the tasty soda that's making us sluggish after an initial sugar rush; all these things are bringing our health bars down, way down.
If we take it a step further, what if every negative thought, every angry reaction and every stubborn refusal to do something is bringing us down? Surely if we could see the immediate effects on our health bar, we'd put a lot more effort and care into our self preservation to maintain that high bar? Well we don't need to see it to appreciate and understand the principle, so why not give it a go? Let's try and visualise our health bars, and consciously think how we affect it each and every day, and let's live long and prosper!
Tomorrow morning, when you wake up, try and consider your health bar and try your hardest to keep it high throughout the day. Believe me, it'll make a difference!
